    In some areas medical trips of this type are actually subsidized
    by the local gov't (taxpayers..) to make it easier for people to
    get to these appointments. Depending on the arrrangement, the
    car operator might (might...) actually be getting paid above and
    beyond the amount "on the meter", so to speak.
