• Freevee and Apple TV +

    From Adam H. Kerman@21:1/5 to All on Tue Aug 26 04:47:31 2025
I watched Bosch and Bosch: Legacy on Freevee. I've got a few days left
till it goes away. Anything I should really catch?

I borrowed the ROKU stick from the library with Apple TV + but will have
to return it in a couple of weeks. Anything I should really try to
watch? I was thinking of Slow Horses. Not sure I could get into
Severance. Or maybe I watched it and forgot due to the brain operation.

Re: Apple, I've enjoyed "Silo" (esp. the first season), and "Foundation"
(still haven't gotten to season #3 yet), though you won't be able to
finish either of those series as they're not done yet. Also, "Hijack"
was diverting. And I've enjoyed "The Buccaneers" which looks beautiful
    in 4k. :)

I *really* enjoy Slow Horses and am eagerly awaiting Season 5 next
month. Gary Oldman is amazing and there's a strong supporting cast too.

I struggled mightily and managed to get through the first season of
Severance. It finally seemed to move a bit in the final episode of
Season 1 but when I watched the first episode of Season 2, it was back
to the same glacial pacing as Season 1. I know that some shows, like The
Wire, were written as "slow burns", stories that moved slowly but built
to a compelling culmination, and I think Severance must be intended this
way. But for my money, it's just a slow bore. It just pays off way too
slowly for my taste and I simply don't have the patience so I dropped it
after the first episode of Season 2.

Of course you may feel completely differently about both shows. Those
are just my two cents worth.

Thanks to Ian and Rhino for recommendations.

The Netflix Roku stick came in so I was watching The Lincoln Lawyer. I
didn't get to the other Roku stick.

I tried watching Apple TV + programming on it but it kept asking me to
sign up for a free trial.

    Aargh.

Looking at it carefully, it's the Amazon Prime Roku stick.

    Any recommendations for this?
