Today's poem on Penny's Poetry Blog:
An August Cricket, by Arthur Goodenough
    [...]
His life is brief as is the leaf
    To summer branches clinging!
But yet no thought of death or grief
    He mentions in his singing.

I'm glad you liked. It was a last-minute substitution. I had Leigh
Hunt's "Grasshopper and Cricket" poem pencilled in for Saturday (as it's
been on my "Summer" list for years, but I reread it before posting and
noticed the word "June" -- so I decided to hold it for next June, and
look for an August cricket instead.

You're right about rarity; Goodenough was like Robert F. Skillings, a
farmer who lived all his life on his farm, and I'd never heard of him
before. But I put up a PPP bio for him, andI found quite a bit more for
him than for Skillings: Goodenough did start a literary zine in his 20s,
got to know some of the New England literary community, and did have 4
books published, as well as poems in a few other zines.

As I recall, Clarke Ashton Smith and H.P. Lovecraft were somewhat related to that region, been a while since I read the bios though...

Thanks for posting the link; I think PPP is the only place, outside the Brattleboro Historical Society (which provided most of the info) to find
    any info on Goodenough.

Since you've already been there, you know about the literary connetion
to H.P. Lovecraft; something I tried to play up.

The Lovecraft connection is pretty cool, thanks for getting Goodenough some of the spotlight.

    Yep...

It's fun discovering new poets and writing their bios. But you never
    know whom you'll find.

Sometimes the poet is Perfect, and sometimes he's just Goodenough.
