Today's poem on Penny's Poetry Blog:
    Dead Leaves, by E. Nesbit
    [...]
For sometimes lovers, in November days,
When earth is grieving for the vanished sun,
Have trod dead leaves in chill and wintry ways,
And kissed and dreamed eternal summer won

    Another excellent choice, lovely poem....

Nisbet's a poet I've been paying more attention to. She's best known as
    a children's writer; I think whe's best known for the /Treasure Seekers/
    or Bastable series.

The first part (octet) of this sonnet is a bit draggy. She has one
simple thought -- nothing smells as wonderful as autumn leaves -- to
fill 8 lines, so she has to pad it with a list of things that aren't as wonderful. But the last 6 lines (the sestet) is great; both the four I
quoted and the last two which are just perfect.

Look back, look back! through memory's deepening haze,
See — two who dreamed that dream, and you were one!
