Are Teachers Losers?

Many people regard teachers as losers. Losers or not, you need them; so you need to be good to them even if you think that they are losers.
My grandmother was a teacher, and she was definitely not a loser. She was a very strong person who was also highly ethical, hard-working and family-oriented. I was close to several of my teachers, and they treated me well. If you call any of them losers,
I would punch you in the face. Here were people who had foregone opportunity for higher incomes in order that they do something meaningful. And that stance is worthy of respect.
There is an ongoing conflict between business and academia. Academics see business types as greedy and selfish bastards, and business types see academics as commie nerds with no common sense. Both however need one another. Most of what business sells
comes from science, and academics need funding. So they need to figure out how to deal with one another in order to keep doing what they do.
When they don’t, we see abuses. In America the worst abuses were done for business, and in Soviet Union the worst abuses were done for academia. Neither side is good or bad. Both are capable of both. And the correct solution is not to side with one
against the other, but support what each side is right about while confronting what each side is wrong about.
Are teachers losers? Certainly some are; but then again there are many losers in private sector as well. The teachers I’ve been close to though were not losers at all. They had strong will and they had strong ethics. They strongly believed in what they
were doing, and they were good at what they were doing. All these qualities are worthy of respect.
Without the teacher, the businessman would not have the know-how to do his job and most workers would be unemployable. So it is important that these people be treated with respect. Their contribution to prosperity is vast, and they should be properly
credited for it. The people who think that they are winners owe a lot to many people whom they regard to be losers. And they must be good to them whatever they believe them to be.
