In '40s Mississippi (by way of Memphis) a kid gets his musical catechism
from Negro spirituals, on his way to becoming The King. Writer-director
Baz Luhrmann (as usual) pulls out all the stops in his flashy bio of
ELVIS. Fast-paced even at 2-1/2 hours, Luhrmann's extravaganza pays
equal, ample tribute to the phenomenon, the legend, and, if you're in
the mood for it, the man. Well recommended.
Luhrmann recently expressed a desire to put out a four-hour director's
cut in the distant future.

He probably wishes Elvis had lived longer.
