The only thing I can derive from this is that Driver is an unknown quantity and the studio didn't trust enough to invest what was needed.
Cloying plot where Driver has to earn enough money to "save" his daughter from an illness? Of course she doesn't look ill at all. $0.50 cent special effects at times, the ship/asteroid encounter looks like a 20 year old video game. Terrible technical (
did you know, a spacecraft from the future doesn't even have radar as good as the average Vietnam era U.S. naval vessel? Or ANY radar??) details, laughable in-fact. He doesn't know what planet he's on, but he encountered an "undocumented" asteroid
belt which could be part of a larger one (hint, hint). That, and the ridiculous lack of ship radar warning system cost him the ship and he crash lands on the planet.
Meanwhile, a few minutes later, he's slogging through a hot, humid swamp carrying a wounded passenger, with his air-tight and presumably insulated space-suit on, sans helmet. He'd last about 10 minutes before he'd drop from heat prostration. The
appalling lack of automation, of the ship's gear not being able to tell him ANYTHING is silly. They almost have working tricorders TODAY and THIS is our future??!
