• EVIL DEAD RISE (no spoilers)

Demons are loose in a old L.A. high-rise, and have their evil eye on Mom
and her three kids. EVIL DEAD RISE, on Max, is a handsome,
extravagant continuation of the original's familiar themes ...well,
theme. Craftsmanship and excess are what's on plentiful offer here, and
maybe that'll do ya, though it didn't quite do me. Somewhat recommended.

It lacks the genius ability to mix real horror with ridiculous comedy the first two had.

    That doesn't seem wrong.

Except for The Exorcist, kids tend to kill horror for me if their
involvement is more than a cameo.

THE EXORCIST's story/script allowed the kid to remain a kid.

Blatty was a smart guy, and making the kid (Regan I think) suffer a loss
of innocence by becoming possessed is one of the story elements that
    made it so compelling.

Possibly why he turned the (actual) kid into a girl.
