The Pope's Exorcist. Why is it so hard to write a good exorcist movie?

There is no subtlety. Remember the original "The Exorcist?" How it expertly built the story up, from the guy finding the idol in Iraq to the story of the actress in New York and her daughter, bit by bit the "force" took over the kid? That's too much
for a modern ADHD afflicted audience. So, they dumb-down the dialog, complete with canned speechify from the Pope, and ramp up the story in 15 minutes, tossing in the usual renegade as the priest and the overwrought actions of the possessed, plus of
course the clank of a sound at every turn to induce "fright." Shocking speech from the demon which did shock in the original movie merely comes off as vulgar. Underdeveloped characters, except maybe for the priest and it earns its rating of about 6/10
on IMDB.
