In December this column celebrated the successful box-office debut of “Spider-Man: No Way Home” as movie fans rejected the infinity war against
Covid and instead decided to live with life’s risks. Now it seems the movie
is helping to revive a whole industry. In the New York Post Alexandra
    Steigrad reports:

Blockbusters like “Spider-Man: No Way Home” and “Scream” have ignited
the box office, giving cinema chain Cinemark a resurgence and lifting
    its fourth-quarter results.

Ms. Steigrad notes how the recent results at Cinemark compare to the fourth quarter of 2020:

Quarterly net income totaled 5 cents a share, compared with a loss of
$2.03 a share. Revenue shot up to $666.7 million from just $98.2
million. Analysts expected a loss of 8 cents on sales of $601.3 million.

    Bravo, moviegoers.

What a crap movie. The only point is to explain why Marisa Tomei
will not show up in sequels. It has about ten minutes of plot
stretched to boring extremes by the script requiring characters
to be pointy heads idiots every five seconds.

    So the latest Spiderman....

Are there no script editors left in Hollyweird? The latest Bond film suffered from being at least thirty minutes to long and here's another big budget movie suffering the same syndrome. Not that it's all bad, far from it. Loved bringing so many past
badies back. And the fx for the fights wasw way over the top just the way a superchump movie should be.

It was tedious, like most superhero movies. Consumed by special effects, the PG-rated fight scenes instill no tenseness in the audience. Instead of solid drama with a decent logical quantity of action, you get cloying sentimentality and melodrama. Can
it be done well? Sure, it's possible. But not this time.

That's the parts that needed a good script editor

But compared to The Batman it's a fast passed thrill ride!
