No. The Empath is at worst #4. Below it would be Spock?s Brain (#1, by
a wide margin) plus The Omega Glory in #2, just edging out Sub Rosa from
TNG. The Empath is bad, but it?s not as bad as The Omega Glory or Sub
Rosa and is miles ahead of Spock?s Brain.

"Spock's Brain" may be the worst episode of any Star Trek series. I
haven't seen every episode of every series, but I still suspect it is.

It might be worse, but it's so bad that it's entertaining (funny).

The Empath is stupid _and_ not entertaining.

Just who does IBDM let vote? This is a middling one. For me, it's a
tossup between The Empath and the Halloween ep.

The empath is the clear hands-down worst episode winner. Accept no
    substitutes.

I guess there was that one where the bridge crew turned into children.

    The aforementioned sub rosa.

That one towards the end where data turns into a Mayan.

That one Gates McMuffin directed where everybody on the Enterprise
    devolves into a different species.

LOL, I must have missed that one. Or repressed it.

What about the one where Wesley turns into a Native American god? I
think they'd stopped trying by that point.

TNG couldn?t keep qualified writers or story editors because of the
working environment much of which was Patrick Stewart?s bad behavior.
About halfway through the series run having burned through everybody
talented they had worked their way down to Braga.

    Hunh. What was he doing?

He was infamous for pulling childish crap, like if any visitor to the
set, sat in the captains chair, which they all obviously would want to
do he storm off the set in a hissy fit and not come back that day.

I did a search on on-set tantrums from him, and I found one story from
the first season which ends which everybody having a good laugh about it
all. I knew immediately that it was a planted story to confuse the
search results for things like "Patrick Stewart throws a fit." Since it
was clearly planted, I figured there must have been a series of other >tantrums to be concealed.

The captain's chair, really? Part of the set? Was he going nuts and
    confusing himself with Picard? :D

As far as the writers went a couple of them talked about what a
nightmare it was in an article in starlog and they said he would hand
them script changes he wanted. But that's not the chain of command.
Actors don't tell the writers to make changes. If they want them, they
go to the producer or the story, editor or a showrunner. Can you imagine
what a nightmare it would be if all the actors were constantly coming to
the scriptwriter with changes? And it was bad enough they'd quit.

And his insistance of getting some romantic and action eps, hence
whats-her-name on Risa and the Die Hard ripoff.

You know, I never understood why some people insisted Picard was sexy.

Some people think Mr Clean is sexy.

Catching up on all my favorite NG's and replying. This one is a heavy
question. I will spend some leisure time over the next few days going
over the episodes list, watching the ones I suspect qualify, and will
reply. I am not reading the other replies to prevent the influence of
    other opinions.

    5.2? That's not even a bad score. I wouldn't give it more than a 2.5,
and only that high to make room for several that are worse.

I noticed a lot of the lowest scores are around 5 and 6. I was expecting
most to be around 2 or 3.
