It makes sense. For years I would get Christmas cards from my (Orange) grandparents reminding me that I was going to hell because my father
married an (Italian) Catholic.
I had a similar, if reversed, experience around age ten. Not, I hasten to
add, from my family.
On the whole it was a good thing, as I got new friends and began to escape
the clutches of religion.
