As in someone bought the TV rights or,
as in someone has a production company hiring scriptwriters and
    auditioning actors?

If its the first then I feel the need to point out that there is
probably someone out there trying to buy the rights to grade schoolers
"What I did during the Summer" homework.

It appears Apple+ has something "in development".

There's a 2012 show also called "Murderbot" based on the work
    of a different author.

"In development" can mean anything short of having started shooting but
usually it means "we bought the rights, now we're going to spend the
next few years deciding if we actually want to make this and if so a few
more years seeing who can we con into making it."

I'm ambivalent about this. So much of Murderbot is its internal dialog.
I don't know how a show would handle that and make it successful.
    Possibly voiceover?

I fear that we'd end up with something not that close to the original.

Its a TV adaptation of a book series. You'll be luck if there is much
of anything of the original books in it other than some names and places.

Even expecting names and places from the novels to be used seems
unduly ... optimistic ... to me.

This is a story about a Murderbot. The TV show, if it ever appears,
probably will be about something called a "Murderbot", perhaps as the protagonist, perhaps as the quarry. Or at least using "Murderbot" in
its title. Although writing it as "MurderBot" would not be beyond the
    realm of possibility.

Ahem. Even names and places may well be unrecognizable.

Famously the Bladerunner movie was based on PKD’s Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, but with Allan Norse’s medical thriller’s title (because they apparently had rights to both and didn’t want to generate a medical thriller, and, besides, there wasn’t a sheep, electric or otherwise, in sight)

Starship Troopers, Nightfall, Foundation, and most especially Lensman are
also examples of what happens to books when Hollyweird gets hold of them.
(OK, Lensman was Japanese, not Holyweird. It still stunk.)

To be sure, some books get treated well; Greyhound was at least in shouting distance of The Good Shepard, and The Cruel Sea was pretty good. I’d have liked to have seen a movie of HMS Ulysses made by the team that made The
Cruel Sea; I suspect that we’d get something closer to (ick) U-571, though.

The Expanse tv series was fairly faithful to the Expanse books.

In large part because the authors of the books were _heavily_ involved
in the production. Which is rare.

"One Piece" is working pretty well for the same reason.

But in general it's: Throw a book over the wall and catch the bag of
money they throw back. And don't expect anything more.
