    I remember this as one of the worst novels I've ever read. I don't
    know SF fandom, American or otherwise, so that part is just groveling
    fan service directed at other people. Apart from that, the novel
    mostly satirizes various New Age and otherwise strange beliefs I
    hadn't even heard of, much less feel threatened by as the authors
    seem to do.

    Unlike some other readers, I'm _not_ triggered by the central concept
    that we're at the end of an interglacial and a new ice age will
    fall upon as any moment now. This once popular idea is just obsolete,
    like so much in older SF. No, it's the rest of the book that is
    crap.
