If Captain Zoom was suddenly confronted by a charging hickoderm, all he
had to do was to switch on the set, wait for the tubes to warm up, check
the channel selector, adjust the fine tuning, touch up the focus, twiddle
with the Line and Frame holds-and then press the trigger. He was,
fortunately, a man of unbelievably swift reactions.

Firing slugs using a linear accelerator.

Very much a prototype, it has about the punch of a .22LR,
But weighs over 20 lbs, and while multishot, requires up
    to 3 seconds to recharge.

However, it is fireable from the shoulder, and runs of batteries.

    pt
This doesn't seem real useful so far.

About as useful as the first firearms.

Batteries can be ... problematic ... in cold weather.

So, then, this is for ... warm-weather warriors?

That causes me to remember the very useful air rifle that

That was a fascinating bit of technology, especially
considering the era. I think I recall 30 something
useful shots per compressed air tank?
