From James Nicoll@21:1/5 to All on Mon Jun 17 13:55:00 2024
1988! Osama Bin founds a social group, dynamic Dukakis faces off against
boring establishment man Bush, and the Soviet Union embraces sweeping
reforms that will ensure its immortality.

Which 1988 Nebula Finalist Novels Have You Read?

The Falling Woman by Pat Murphy
Soldier of the Mist by Gene Wolfe
The Forge of God by Greg Bear
The Uplift War by David Brin
Vergil in Averno by Avram Davidson
When Gravity Fails by George Alec Effinger

All but the Davidson. I am very poorly read in Davidson.

Fugue State by John M. Ford
The Secret Sharer by Robert Silverberg
The Tiger Sweater by Keith Roberts
The Unconquered Country by Geoff Ryman
    Witness by Walter Jon Williams

Only the WJW. I have a feeling my hit rate will take a sharp plunge after
    this year.

Which 1988 Nebula Finalist Novelettes Have You Read?

Rachel in Love by Pat Murphy
Buffalo Gals, Won't You Come Out Tonight by Ursula K. Le Guin

    Schwarzschild Radius by Connie Willis
The Evening and the Morning and the Night by Octavia E. Butler

    All of them.

Forever Yours, Anna by Kate Wilhelm
    Angel by Pat Cadigan
    Cassandra's Photographs by Lisa Goldstein
Kid Charlemagne by Paul Di Filippo
Temple to a Minor Goddess by Susan Shwartz
The Faithful Companion at Forty by Karen Joy Fowler

Also, all but the Davidson. I would have also said I hadn't read much by
him but when I checked, I had 12 novels on my shelves! (I remember only
    one from the titles, _Joyleg_)

The Brin and Effinger are Favorites. The Wolfe was ... memorable, but I've never re-read it.

The WJW and the Ryman (the Ryman in some form; I'm not sure in this form.)

    [stuff deleted]

Of the whole list, only the Wolfe.
