• Clarke Award Finalists 1997

From James Nicoll@21:1/5 to All on Mon May 19 14:47:43 2025
1997: The UK wins Eurovision, the BBC foolishly embraces that passing
fad known as the internet, and Tony Blair wins a razor-thin 179 seat
    majority.

Which 1997 Clarke Award Finalists Have You Read?
The Calcutta Chromosome by Amitav Ghosh
Blue Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson
Gibbon's Decline and Fall by Sheri S. Tepper
Looking for the Mahdi by N. Lee Wood
The Engines of God by Jack McDevitt
    Voyage by Stephen Baxter

Just the Robinson, the Wood, the McDevitt, and the Baxter. The Baxter
    might be his best book.

The only thing I remember about _The Calcutta Chromosome_ is that
it did not feel like SF at all.

I think that's pretty SOP for the Clarke, though.

Also, as here, the least SFnal one often wins.
