Perhaps one of the show's problems is that, like the writer of the
article that you've quoted, RTD seems to view it primarily as a kids'
show. If a survey was carried out, I think he might be surprised by the
age profile of its viewers.

The average age of the viewers may be older, but that doesn't change
the fact that it is made as a kids' show, albeit slightly older kids
than say teh Sarah Jane show was. Many kids' shows are actually better
and more interesting than the boring, over-sexed, and/or over-violent
garbage made for supposed grown-ups, (even ignoring the infestation of >"reality" TV garbage made for adults).

I don't think RTD would be surprised, he knows all about Doctor
Who fandom. He just doesn't care and makes Doctor Who the way he
wants to. (There are many examples of his views on this in "The
Writers Tale".)
