Yes. He was famous for the Navy Lark, a much beloved sitcom on radio, and was
also in a Carry On movie. After his stint on Who he took the lead in
"Worzel Gummidge", a very comedic role.
His comic talents can even be seen in Who from time to time, starting with
Spearhead From Space, which saw him careering down a hospital driveway in a wheelchair comedy chase scene and gurning in a ridiculous manner while
being "strangled" by the Nestene consciousness.
"1963"?? .... Really??
It's common for TV shows with reboots and revivals to be referred to by the
starting year of each era. Hence Battlestar Galactica (1978) and Battlestar Galactica (2004), and the BBC breaks its Doctor Who iPlayer offerings into Doctor Who (1963), Doctor Who (2005) and Doctor Who (undated, as it's the current iteration of the show, but will soon be known as 2023 I'm sure).

Jon Pertwee did do quiet a few comedies among many other roles. He was
in some of the Carry On comedy movies, the kids' comedy-drama Worzel Gummidge, a one-episode role in The Goodies, etc. But it's probably not accurate to say "mainly a comedy actor".

Meera Syal.
I thought I had actually mentioned her RL Name AND included a link to
her IMDB Bio ..... but NO!!

She has plaued *lots* of roles and is married to Sanjeev Bhaskar (the
male detective in the "Unforgotten" series
Good Series .... and he plays his part very well .... thinking HE should
be the Boss of the squad .... but "The System" keeps posting in other DCI's!!
and has been in Doctor Who three times, although two of those were
voice-acting roles).
appeared as "Nasreen Chaudhry" in the Eleventh Doctor "Doctor Who"
episode, The Hungry Earth, where some group or other of Scientists
were drilling through Earth's Crust ..... until The Silurians
start abducting people.
Clips of the same character also appeared in "The Destinations of
Doctor Who" show.
She was also in the Doctor Who audio drama "Peladon" playing Arla
Decanto, and was the narrator in the audio drama "Doctor Who: New
Series Adventures". Plus of course appeared as herself in an episode
of the documentary "Doctor Who Confidential".

Small UK village of Marlow where a retired archaeologist, a vicar's

books.

Ex-police detective turned cruise line entertainer solves mysteries

- Moonflower Murders

A series of books that is being made into a trilogy of mini-series.
First one was "Magpie Murders", the second "Moonflower Murders", and

Basically a bit of a knock-off of the US series "Monk". A university
crime professor with obsessive compulsive disorder helps the police
to solve crimes,

Then the was with Sal (I can't remember if she was a nurse or not nor

him to come for a visit because they haven't seen Ludwig in a while, but
it's a ruse to get him to come help her investigate what has happened to

looking for clues about his brother.
So in the First Ep, did "we" see what happened to the Real Detective?? I >>> missed it.
Nope. It starts with Ludwig being contacted by his sister-in-law asking
him to come for a visit because they haven't seen Ludwig in a while,
but it's a ruse to get him to come help her investigate what has
happened to her husband. Even by the end of the season we don't know
what happened to the detective, other than he seems to have gone into
hiding without telling his family. A second season is being made.
Looks like our local TV Station has gone back to the start ....

Puzzle setter John "Ludwig"€™ Taylor'€™s life is upended when his
identical twin, DCI James Taylor, disappears. John reluctantly assumes
his identity in order to track him down.
End Quote.

Seen a couple .. but missed the first Ep so don't know the
"back-story".
A police detective goes missing and his twin brother (a newspaper
crossword setter) comes in to help the detective's wife find out what >>>>> happened, which he does by pretending to be his brother to go into
the police station and ends up having to solve other crimes while
looking for clues about his brother.

I wouldn't trust what TV stations put in the blurbs on their guides
(printed, website, or on-screen).
Sky TV in New Zealand has had the exact same blurb from an old last
season episode for *every* episode of Casualty since Christmas! Thanks
to them we missed a few episodes at the start of the year before I got >suspicious and recorded one, and discovered it was actually a new
episode. :-(

Yep, he was the first one. He got killed off, but rather stupidly did

Yep, "Vera" ended. We saw the final episode a few weeks ago.
The actresss has said she doesn't think they should do a spin-off or a >prequel (young PC Vera), but what the show's makers decided to do is
another question.
They could, but are not going to, even simply continue the show without
her character. It worked for "Taggart" for years after the death of the
actor who played Jim Taggart - they didn't change the show's name, just >continued with the rest of the cast.

There are many other similar-ish shows. For example ...
A new one is "Ellis", although we haven't seen it yet, so can't say if
it is any good or not, and it might be more harder edged than Vera.
  Ellis
DCI Ellis is the last hope for failing investigations. She
takes over tough cases across northern England, often with
resistance from local police. But her formidable demeanour
disguises deep empathy fuelled by her complicated past.
  <https://www.imdb.com/title/tt30802702/>
"Bergerac" is back, although like all silly 'reboots', it is no where
near as good as the original. (In today's usual Politically Correct
idiocy, Charlie Hungerford is now a woman, played by Zoe Wanamaker.)
  Bergerac
Troubled detective Jim Bergerac is forced to confront a
troubling past case when a wealthy woman is murdered,
pushing him to overcome personal demons and reignite his
investigative prowess to navigate family tensions and law
  enforcement scrutiny.

I don't think I bothered with the previous "Bergerac" series .... given
the Title, I may have thought it was a "Foreign" series and I hated
reading sub-titles. ;-P

Well... it's not unreasonable to expect that a Doctor Who fan
would want to watch new episodes of Doctor Who! :-)
Hasn't that horse already bolted!! ;-P
Nope.
There's still six new episodes to air this season, plus the
spin-off (The War Between the Land and the Sea) is due for
release later on this year... and if the rumours do turn out to
be true about the show being cancelled, then it's highly likely
that Disney would still keep they episodes they put money into on
their service for a while. So there's plenty of time for you to
catch-up.
Go on, go for it... you know it makes sense.
