SEASON 2 - EPISODE 2 - LUX
Better than THE ROBOT REVOLUTION is the best I can say about this
episode.
Dr Who meets Scooby Doo. Some fun parts, some imaginative parts, more
fourth wall breaking - BLINK gets a mention - however, the writing
still leaves a lot to be desired, meaning LUX ends up being average
fare.
Five out of ten is a good as LUX gets from my side of the screen.--

No...but crying for what look like trivial matters is
tiresome. Like I've said before, if it's something that
happens all the time, it loses its effectiveness as a plot

Imagine if Jon Pertwee's Doctor had cried when the Brigadier had
the Silurian's cave blown up killing all of the Silurians
inside... or the Fifth Doctor had cried when Adric perished on
the freighter (etc.) They were bigger reasons than what we
[usually] see tears run down the 15th Doctor's cheek for.
Crying doesn't make the Doctor more human to me, it just takes
me out of whatever dramatic moment we are supposed to be
viewing. Tears shouldn't be the signal that we are supposed to
care because the Doctor does, tears SHOULD mean something major
has happened... and we wouldn't need any signal for THAT!

Funny you mentioned this one. I was thinking about this one last week
when the Doctor, IMHO, took a very atypical attitude toward the death of
a living being at the end of Robot Revolution. The guy had been reduced
back to a sperm cell, and then: "polish, polish, polish", and the doctor >gleefully declares, "well that's all for him!" The Doctor has always
been about all life having value...even bad people. IMHO, RTD committed
a bit of character assassination there. Back to the Silurians. The
Doctor didn't cry, but, taking one look at his face you could tell that
the Doctor was clearly disgusted with the Brigadier's actions. Yes
crying there would have looked really odd.
or the Fifth Doctor had cried when Adric perished on
the freighter (etc.) They were bigger reasons than what we
[usually] see tears run down the 15th Doctor's cheek for.
With Adric's death, even though he wasn't the first companion to die, I
could actually see the Doctor cry in that case. In addition to the
Doctor's value of all life, he would take Adric's death more personally >because the Doctor went to great lengths to try and keep the companions
safe. Not only is the personal loss there, but the Doctor would feel >responsible for Adric's death, and violating Adric's trust in him.
I agree, and if it's used all the time, people will eventually ignore
it, and whatever effect the writer wanted to employ there doesn't work.

Five out of ten is a good as LUX gets from my side of the screen.
Yeah...I'd go with that. Not great, a bit of an improvement overall,
better that Robot Revolution, but not great.
There were parts that I really liked, then it got stupid in the middle (meeting the fans that were watching the episode in "real

Took 32 minutes for the Doctor to cry...I think that's a record.

WHAT IF:
The Doctor crying in every episode is because time lord tears contain mysterious power meaning Mrs Flood is given life from the Doctor's
tears. The more that he cries the more real she becomes. Russel T Davies
has not been showing us how emotional the doctor is - he's been giving
us a clue to Mrs Flood's identity.

SEASON 2 - EPISODE 2 - LUX
Better than THE ROBOT REVOLUTION is the best I can say about this
episode.
Dr Who meets Scooby Doo. Some fun parts, some imaginative parts, more
fourth wall breaking - BLINK gets a mention - however, the writing
still leaves a lot to be desired, meaning LUX ends up being average
fare.
Five out of ten is a good as LUX gets from my side of the screen.
Yeah...I'd go with that. Not great, a bit of an improvement overall,
better that Robot Revolution, but not great.
There were parts that I really liked, then it got stupid in the middle
(meeting the fans that were watching the episode in "real
time"....eyeball rolling city right there), started to regain its
composure, then failed to stick the landing.
Took 32 minutes for the Doctor to cry...I think that's a record.
WHAT IF:
The Doctor crying in every episode is because time lord tears contain
mysterious power meaning Mrs Flood is given life from the Doctor's
tears. The more that he cries the more real she becomes. Russel T Davies
has not been showing us how emotional the doctor is - he's been giving
us a clue to Mrs Flood's identity.
FLOOD OF TEARS
? ? ? ? ?
It would be quite a plot twist if true.

That would fall in line with the standard RTD method of doing
a great build-up... but falling flat on the ending.

Different... but just as valid a supposition at this moment in
time I suppose.

Well... there is always a twist at the end!
(I am not singing the song though.)

We are a cynical bunch, ain't we?
Poor RTD... if he was reading RADW he'd be rolling his eyes at
our lack of faith in his 'vision'! :-)

Oh, RTD has a vision alright... it's just one we might not all
share. His ideas of what "Doctor Who" is and should be are
probably different from a lot of people's. But he is the
Executive Producer of "Doctor Who", so he is the man that
counts... he is also the man that you were welcoming back to
"Doctor Who" as the saviour of the show two years ago!

I love it when you contribute here with those really deep
insightful observations...

Nobody, bar a few delusional people, ever thought RTD would
retcon it. Why would he? RTD has his own story to tell as part
of his "Doctor Who" vision, he was hardly going to waste time
going back and re-writing somebody else's vision.
