Well...all my course work is done, dissertation approved, and
now a week from Saturday I will be receiving my PhD in
Abnormal Psychology.
Most of you know that I am a school band director. That isn't
going to change. I pursued this degree so that I would be in
a better position to observe and report if a student is
showing signs of mental distress, and hopefully be able to
intervene and get them any help they need before they resort
to acts of extreme violence to themselves, or others in a
school setting.
Now, if you will excuse me, I am off to have the Adult
Beverage of my choice with my girlfriend. :)

Well, in fairness, I try (not always succeed) to not mix work with
non-work if I can get away with it. For example, me and my girlfriend
don't go to many concerts / musicals / operas. Not because we aren't
into those things, but since my job is to evaluate and correct the
errors my band kids make when playing their parts, it is hard for me to
turn that off and just /enjoy/
a performance.

Well, at least now there is at least one person here who is an actual
doctor!

Thanks, and even though I wasn't yet "official", I have had to use my
knowledge earlier this year. Now, obviously what I write here won't
expose who the kid is (and I wouldn't do that anyway), but we were able
to get this kid evaluated and helped as he was showing signs that were
suggesting schizophrenia. The kid's 12 years old....and schizophrenia
is very hard to diagnose until a person is already deep down that rabbit
hole. I hope he's doing better.
I had a classmate with schizophrenia.

Well, to fully enjoy RADW you'd most certainly have turn off
your skills in detecting Abnormal Psychology... it could be a
distraction! However, we could provide you with some field
research should you need examples...
