Such ideas have worked quite well for some other franchises. The "Star
Wars: Young Jedi Adventures" seems popular, for example, although
perhaps a slightly older target audience than the pre-school CBeebies.

I dunno, a thread asking if it is April 1st seems quite an apt
thread for news of an under-five's version of Doctor Who being
commissioned for the cBeebies channel...
but here is the "official topic". :-)
It's just as much of a weird idea here on the official thread!

You'd think the BBC would be more interested in sorting out the
issues with the main show...

some people would miss it. :-)

Hollyweird (i.e. the entertainment industry), like almost every other >businesses, has zero interest in their actual product and zero interest

The US has been particularly bad at doing this for years. Just look
athe numerous spin-offs of shows like "Law & Order", "CSI", etc. or
"The Simpsons" being renewed for season 13million-and-one. Recently
British makers have started jumping on the same bandwagon with shows
like "Death in Paradise" currently having two spin-offs ("Beyond
Paradise" and "Return to Paradise").
