• [NEWS] BBC developing CBeebies animated "Doctor Who" series

This was posted about in another more obscure topic, but here is the
    "official topic". :-)

New Doctor Who Spin-Off for Younger Viewers
    -------------------------------------------
The BBC is currently looking for a production partner to create
a new Doctor Who animated series

The BBC is getting ready to expand the Whoniverse as it
launches plans for a brand new pre-school Doctor Who animation
series. The show will bring the Doctor's adventures come to
CBeebies for the first time ever.

The BBC is looking for a passionate production company to create
and produce the series, which will run independently from the
main show, that will see the Doctor travelling through time and
space for the pre-school audience, solving mysteries and
problems alongside their companions and other friends.

And, of course, they may come up against one or two challenges
    on their way...

Speaking about the plans, Patricia Hidalgo, Director of
Children's and Education said: "Everyone is welcome at CBeebies,
including the Doctor! This much-loved franchise entertains
millions around the world, so it is only right that our younger
audience get to experience the wonder and the magic of the
Doctor in a brand new format. This is an extremely exciting
opportunity, and we are looking forward to welcoming companies
to pitch for this new project, as we continue our commitment and
investment in the UK's animation industry."

The new show is the latest in a long line of Doctor Who spin-offs,
but likely won't appear on screens for a few years yet

The new series, which is still without a title, will be the sixth
fiction spin off from Doctor Who produced by the BBC over the
decades. It follows in the footsteps of K9 and Company, Torchwood,
The Sarah Jane Adventures, Class, and the forthcoming The War
Between the Land and the Sea. One-off animated Doctor Who serials,
such as The Infinite Quest and Dreamland have also set a
precedent. However the new CBeebies show will be the first ongoing
animated series, and the first aimed at a pre-school audience.

Fans and kids alike should expect a considerable wait before it
arrives, however. Animated series typically require a longer
development phase than live action and there isn't even a
production company involved yet. Chances are, the CBeebies viewers
who'll actually sit down in front of the series are only just
    being born.

Blogtor Who will continue to keep you updated, though, with
developments over the next few years as they happen.

Such ideas have worked quite well for some other franchises. The "Star
Wars: Young Jedi Adventures" seems popular, for example, although
perhaps a slightly older target audience than the pre-school CBeebies.

I dunno, a thread asking if it is April 1st seems quite an apt
thread for news of an under-five's version of Doctor Who being
    commissioned for the cBeebies channel...

but here is the "official topic". :-)

It's just as much of a weird idea here on the official thread!

Apt, maybe, but the topic title does hide the announcement measning
some people would miss it. :-)

Hollyweird (i.e. the entertainment industry), like almost every other businesses, has zero interest in their actual product and zero interest
in the fans. All they care about is shovelling more money into their
management pockets, and if that means dredging every concievable penny
out of a franchise before throwing it into the trash, then that's what
they'll do ... usually with each new show / season worse than the
previous one as it drags on and on.

The US has been particularly bad at doing this for years. Just look
athe numerous spin-offs of shows like "Law & Order", "CSI", etc. or
"The Simpsons" being renewed for season 13million-and-one. Recently
British makers have started jumping on the same bandwagon with shows
like "Death in Paradise" currently having two spin-offs ("Beyond
    Paradise" and "Return to Paradise").
