The 12 regeneration limit was not introduced until The Deadly Assassin
in the following season. Therefore there are no stakes involved for the >Doctor. The viewer knows the Doctor's previous faces. They know that
Morbius is showing he has had more incarnations than the Doctor, it's
already stated that he's far older, and is showing his previous
incarnations after the Doctor reaches his limit. Also the whole thing is >nonsensical since it's called a children's game. How can children show

The retcon is the idea that there were ever any incarnations of the
Doctor before Hartnell.
In an Unearthly Child we know from the first episode that Hartnell fled
to Earth to hide, observe, and not get into trouble. He only started
getting into trouble after Susan's teachers stumbled into the TARDIS.
Given that Susan was 15 he can't have been away from Gallifrey for more
than 15 years, and it was established in The Name of the Doctor that
Susan was already 15 when they left. The Timeless Child monster
contradicts everything that came before it including the entirety of
Matt Smith's story arc.

Interesting theory. What do you see as his role?
It was already established in Logopolis that the Watcher was created by
the Doctor in order to pilot the TARDIS and keep Adric, Nyssa, and
Teegan safe while the universe was collapsing piece by piece and the
Doctor was with the Master in the Master's TARDIS and trying to send a
signal to fix the universe from the Bernard Lovell Telescope back on
Earth. Having seen the Watcher at the start of the story the Doctor
worked out that it was himself in an inter-regenerational state, knew he
was going to regenerate very soon and created a paradox.

Agamemnon knows that, but he's happy to go with the Target

I was too young in 1976 to think things through that deeply,

regardless of who the faces were. It's a classic.

Yes, it was retconned... and "Doctor Who" fans, like
bible-bashers with the bible, choose which retcons count and
which retcons don't. As the show has overwritten many many
things since 1963, with some changes being better than others.
The "Morbius Doctors" retcon - getting rid of pre-Hartnell

implies there are pre-Hartnell incarnations - isn't...

Being polite, misguided is the most positive thing I could say
about the idea.
Having a female 13th Doctor should have been enough of a
creative blank canvass for Chris Chibnall to play with... he
then decided to go down the lore-changing route and come up
with the idea of the "Timeless Child"... for me, a bad idea,
poorly realised.

I like the idea of pre-Hartnell Doctors in theory. It’s fun
to learn that there’s more you don’t know yet.
But in practice the Timeless Child was very badly done.
The idea of making the Doctor a sort of magical Moses
figure (abandoned child becomes a prominent figure
in

to wander elsewhere) is just plain wrong!
There were so many better ways to do pre-Hartnell Doctors.
Why did Chibnall have to choose this one?

Having incarnations of the Doctor before Hartnell completely destroys
the audience's connection with the character. The story of the Doctor

Hollyweird does these idiotic gender and ethnicity swaps all
the time these days ... including stupidly gender-swapping
established characters like Doctor Who and the Master!
The new "Pride and Prejudice" currently being filmed has just
announced they have a "diverse cast". Gatwa is in a new stage
play in the role of Christopher Marlowe (friend of William
Shakespeare), which all paintings show as a white man.
Such idiocy is being done to simply appease a small number of
loud-mouthed blinkered "Politically Correct" morons and to
fulfil checkboxes on the quota system. X-(
It should be noted, that when the new Marvel character Black
Panther was recently announced as being by a white man
(tehnically the child of a black person and a white person) in
the comic books, there were numerous complaints from the
"Politically Correct" brigade ... but when a white male
character is replaced by a black person or a woman or a
disabled person, everyone is supposed to accept that as fine.
It's simply reverse-ism.

For me, I don't have an issue with fictional alien characters
like the Doctor/Master changing their gender when regenerating.
They are Time Lords from Gallifrey and the show has already
established that their whole body changes when regenerating...
Romana II even got to pick her own form (Destiny of the Daleks).
So it's not too much of a stretch in a sci-fi type show to say
an alien can also change their gender when their body
regenerates. The reason for doing it in Doctor Who might be
wrong, as in political correctness tick-boxing, but gender
swapping aliens are nothing new in sci-fi shows/films.
FWIW, I actually preferred Missy to Sacha Dhawan's Master!

The BBC has this weird notion that every historical TV drama it
makes now has to have black/Asian families, as well as
mixed-race relationships, as standard. No matter when in the
past they are set! In one recent Agatha Christie adaptation they
had a Nigerian man get off a boat from Africa, get on a train to
a small English village and go around solving murders, mingling
with the local community, and kissing the [white] girlfriend of
the local squire type character. The vicar was a white man,
married to an Asian woman, they had a mixed-race daughter [brown
skinned] who was in a relationship with the local [white]
Doctor. If they had modernised the story and set it in 2023/2024
no problem, but in a rural English village from the 1950's?!
Nah, not one bit realistic.
And not very faithful to the book either!

Only a twisted person would have the idea of making Black

I'd be as much against that as I would be a black Captain
America, a female Thor or a latino Spider-Man. It's nonsense!

Yes, and maybe they do something similar on Gallifrey? The
Doctor is an alien. "Doctor Who" is a sci-fi fantasy show.
It's not a documentary about life on Earth.
There are many other sci-fi shows and books where characters
have been "test tube" babies or clones, and have grown in
vats, not a womb. Sometimes such characters are "born" from
the vats as fully grown adults, rather than babies or kids.
It's all a red herring anyway as none of the Time Lords that
gender swapped in "Doctor Who" were pregnant... and the show has
never stated how Susan was conceived/born. All they have said is
she was the Doctor's granddaughter. Personally I'd rather the
show didn't go any further than that, as we all know how they do
things now so they'd only come up with some strange mumbo-jumbo
to explain it rather than keeping it simple.

I use head canon to add to the show, not remove whole eras.
For example, ‘Kill the Moon’ has a subplot about the Doctor manipulating >Clara to teach her the responsibilities that come with time travel. In my >head canon this gets expanded so the whole story took place in some
sort of holodeck the Doctor had set up in the TARDIS. Clara just never
found out about it.
In fact I was literally expecting that to be the plot twist at the
end of the episode. It fixes everything and helps tie the main story
more closely to the subplot. (It also explains why so many minor plot
points were copied from classic DW stories set on the moon. The
Doctor was literally copying them when he created the simulation!)
I still hate the episode as transmitted, but I love the version of it
I created in my head.

This is not about head canon. It's about reason and rationality. The

I use head canon to add to the show, not remove whole eras.
I use it to ignore the stupidity of some of the plots... so
some things don't count in my head and other things do. I'd
go dizzy trying to make everything from 1963 'fit', so head
canon solves that requirement and I can sleep easily in my bed
every night.
For example, ‘Kill the Moon’ has a subplot about the Doctor
manipulating Clara to teach her the responsibilities that come
with time travel. In my head canon this gets expanded so the
whole story took place in some sort of holodeck the Doctor had
set up in the TARDIS. Clara just never found out about it.
If only the TARDIS had a holodeck!!!
In fact I was literally expecting that to be the plot twist at
the end of the episode. It fixes everything and helps tie the
main story more closely to the subplot. (It also explains why
so many minor plot points were copied from classic DW stories
set on the moon. The Doctor was literally copying them when he
created the simulation!)
I still hate the episode as transmitted, but I love the
version of it I created in my head.
Head canon versions of Doctor Who stories are often better than
the real thing!

It's a pity the degenerate woke writers didn't have the sense to come up
with the simulation idea. AI would have written a better story. Even if
it had not defied all science and logic, it's still morons in space

decade after the shuttle programme ended, and a stupid delinquent low >achieving school girl instead of the best off the best.

All suspension of disbelief was lost and I was literally yelling at

You know, this is one area where an AI assistant would -- finally! -- be
useful for a even a good writer. With the right prompts and guidance, an
AI could fact-check a ton of things along these lines, leaving the human
writer free to worry about more important parts of the story.
How would you use AI to fix Angels take ManHattan?
Oh, that's a much bigger task than checking for the right kind of vase.
All the plot holes, the angels suddenly having the ability to look
directly at each other... that needs an actual rewrite.
Think I should try it? I'd use a multi-step process, using an AI chat to
plot a sensible episode -- has Weeping Angels, Rory and Amy leave, is
also a good adventure and makes sense -- then use more AI to write it. I >might keep some of the motifs but alter the implementations to hold
together better.
It would be bad compared to real, classic Doctor Who, though. I'm not
sure anyone would actually want to read it.

Gatwa as the 15th Doctor?
either way, on me!! ;-P
He didn't seem to make much of an impression on a lot of the
people that DID see the episodes!
Good actors, bad scripts.
Yes, Dave... I think I would agree with you on that one.
.... but I'm happy to see that Binky has finaly realised that
JodieDoctor wasn't too bad .... just the scripts she got were a bit sus!!

IT just detroyed fic points in time.
Also “detroyed” which probably means they removed all references
to the Iliad.

Yep, starting with the script where the Doctor idiotically regenerated
into a female in the first place simply to appease "Politically
Correct" quotas and loud-mouthed fools. :-p

Oh!! And as it seems Binky has re-generated from "The Doctor" into
"David Shariff Yadallee", it seems I'll have to alter my Binky filter to
fix that situation.
But I like his line "System Administrator a.k.a. The Root of the Problem"
