"Pip & Jane"?? Weren't they two of Enid Blyton's
"Famous Five" or "Secret Seven" characters??

No Pip or Jane were part of the Famous Five or Secret Seven.
(There was a Janet though... which is close.)

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Secret_Seven

"The Secret Seven consists of Peter (the society's head),
Janet (Peter's sister), Pam, Barbara, Jack, Colin and George"

None of those names rings a particular Bell!!

They were fairly standard names for books of that time. In my
head I had a John in there and no George, as I thought George
was only in the 'Famous Five', but I knew there was no Pip or
    Jane.

    Try again...

    Hint: Doctor Who writers.

Yes, I knew that .... just trying (and FAILING) to make other
    connections.

There was a Jane in children's books, those educational ones
they had in schools with numbers as the books got harder to
    read.

.... and wasn't that 'George' an early 'transsexual' (Can I use that
term, now, when referring to a character of that period??) character,
real name 'Georgette' or some such??
