• Davies says he doesn't have a clue !

From The True Doctor@21:1/5 to All on Wed Aug 13 22:39:47 2025
We already knew Davies didn't have a clue from the moment he took over
from Chibnall who didn't have a clue either.

In fairness it's been the same story for months... they are
[supposedly] all waiting on Disney to renew or cancel their
partnership with the BBC. Which could mean the uncertainty lasts
until after "The War Between the Land and the Sea" is aired.

    Proper order!

And if the BBC can keep hold of Disney, or when they agree

The only solution is to do a Dallas and erase everything from Whittaker

I do, yes. I didn't really like it. A lot of the fandom at the time did,
but I would have preferred the TARDIS to stay the TARDIS.

A better take (IMO) on the TARDIS being independently active was in
"Heaven Sent." That was a mighty fine hour of television *and* some good
(if unusual) Doctor Who, and the TARDIS took some action while still
    being its ordinary, semisentient self.

This is where Gaiman introduced the Timelord Fluidity.

No they can't. That idea is nothing more than fan fic. It never happened because nothing from Kill the Moon onwards is considered to be canon.

The TARDIS played no part in Heaven Sent. It was all set inside the
Doctor's Time Dial repeating the same actions over and over again for 4
billion years. Are you confusing it with Hell Bent, and even then the
TARDIS does nothing other than being a TARDIS.

Yes. But clearly you haven't been paying attention to events

But the Doctor didn’t regenerate over and over and over and

and over and over again, and the teleport kept resurrecting him
over and over and over and over again. But no regeneration.

(Well, I suppose in theory it might be technically possible that
he might’ve regenerated before some of those deaths, but
the teleport would’ve reset his body like that never happened
when it resurrected him. So they still don’t count.)

It would be an exact recreation of the scene from Dallas where Pam wakes
up from a bad dream as Bobby walks out of the shower. In fact that exact
scene will be playing on a TV screen in the background as Clara wakes up
and sees Peter Capladi walking out of the TARDIS. It can follow on
directly from the ending of Last Christmas reinstating Moffat's
originally planned ending, and erase everything from continuity from
    Kill the Moon onwards.

The TARDIS played no part in Heaven Sent. It was all set inside the

4 billion years. Are you confusing it with Hell Bent, and even then
the TARDIS does nothing other than being a TARDIS.

So The Doctor can re-generate over and over and over and over again
for four billion years ..... but The Doctor couldn't possibly be The
Timeless Child and regenerate a couple of billion (maybe) times before
    we got to DoctorBill!!

You've obviously never watched the episode. The Doctor never regenerated
even once. He died just after he materialised another copy of himself
    from the transporter buffer.

Oh!! Right! No regeneration ...... just a new copy .... the same as the

No. Kill the Moon can't work in any universe that could possibly exists

without those laws existing the Doctor wouldn't exist either. He would
have even have even been conceived or loomed.

Flat out erasure and everything being a bad dream is the only solution.

In that case, The Pirate Planet can’t happen in any universe
since the linear induction corridor violates the conservation
of momentum, which can’t happen without also violating
conservation of energy, and of mass.

Nope. The Doctor said it worked by neutralising inertia; since the
concepts of physics and telepathy in The Pirate Planet were derived by
Douglas Adams directly from E E Smith's Lensman series.

Since the Doctor left the linear induction corridor with exactly the
same momentum he entered it with there is no violation of any
conservation laws. Neutralising inertial probably requires some kind of anti-gravity or negative mass, but then so does the TARDIS.

    Doctor Who ended in 1978.

No it didn't. If you're going to be like that then it ended in 1963
since time travel except travel forwards in time is impossible.

Flat out erasure and everything being a bad dream is the only solution.

Yep. They’ll have to create AI deepfakes of Mary Tamm and
a young Tom Baker, and reveal how the Key To Time arc really ended!

They won't need to do anything of the kind. No one saw the moon hatch
into a space dragon which then flew away with nearly all of the moon's
mass and at the same time replaced the moon with another egg of exactly
the same mass as itself which looked exactly the same as the original
moon with all the laser reflector missions, moon buggies, golf clubs,
golf balls, American flags, footprints, and moon lander first stages all
still there where they've always been, and all without affecting the
Earth's orbit or climate in the process.

There is no suspension of disbelief for Kill the Moon whatsoever.

Post hoc ergo propter hoc, again.

You are talking absolute nonsense. Have you read E E Smith's Lensman
series and show space travel works in it?

Since the Doctor left the linear induction corridor with exactly the
same momentum he entered it with there is no violation of any
conservation laws. Neutralising inertial probably requires some kind of
anti-gravity or negative mass, but then so does the TARDIS.

Inertia is momentum. They’re the same thing. If you’re
neutralising inertia you’re literally neutralising momentum.
    That’s what inertia means.

Inertia means an object's ability to resist changes to its state of rest
or motion. It's described in Newton's first law. An object will remain
in its existing state of rest or motion unless an external force is applied.

Why do you think photons are able to travel at the speed of light. Guess
what happens when you remove an object's inertia by neutralising it's
mass? Any amount of acceleration will instantly propel it to the speed
of light. If you can control the amount of residual mass of the object
then you can determine what speed it will accelerate to.

A mass of 100kg is travelling at a speed of 1 m/s. It transfers all of
its momentum to a mass of 1kg. Applying the law of conservation of
momentum what speed is the 1kg mass now travelling at?

Answer please? Let's see what you actually know.

And the Doctor even confirms that it’s breaking conservation
of momentum later, in his conversation with Romana later.

DOCTOR: No, no, no, wait a minute. The inertia neutraliser. You
know, I think the conservation of momentum is a very important law
    in physics, don't you?
    ROMANA: Yes.
DOCTOR: I don't think anyone should tamper with it, do you?

So according to the Doctor himself, conservation of momentum
can be violated, even though he thinks it shouldn’t be allowed.

Did you understand that this was a joke the Doctor was making to Romana
when he interfered with the machine and sent the Captain's guards flying
into the distance falling flat on their faces so they could escape? He
prevents the machine from restoring their mass and decelerating them
(their momentum p thus always remained the same so no laws violated),
thus their inertia keeps moving them forward until they hit the ground
or a large rock and then the law of conservation of momentum kicks in
and they transfer all of their momentum (p = mv) to the object which
they hit and come to an instant halt knocking them out.

    Doctor Who ended in 1978.

No it didn't. If you're going to be like that then it ended in 1963
since time travel except travel forwards in time is impossible.

So you’re happy accepting some impossible things but not
    others?

It's already been established since the second episode that the TARDIS
can travel in time, it is capable of travelling FTL by the end of
episode 4, and it can neutralise its mass, therefore inertia, and can
generate artificial gravity or anti-gravity. You can suspend your
    disbelief for all of that.

The moon is not the egg of a space dragon which generates mass out of
nothing and flies off at close to the speed of light without effecting
the Earth's orbit after laying an egg which looks exactly the moon did
before and still contains all of the objects the astronauts placed on
it. It doesn't even recognise that you become weightless in free fall,
and no rational explanations are given for it breaking all the laws of
physics. Therefore there can be non suspension of disbelief. End of story.

    Double standards?

It's called suspension of disbelief obtained through credible story writing.

Who says all the flags, golf balls, etc. are still there? You made
    that up, didn’t you?

They've been observed from satellites orbiting the moon and from Earth
based telescopes measuring the distance between the Earth and the
    reflectors, etc.

What happened to those satellites making the observations too?

Why wasn't the Earth destroyed from the earthquakes and mega tsunamis
that would have resulted from the moon leaving the Earth's obit at close
to the speed of light, and mass leaving and coming out of nowhere?

There is no suspension of disbelief for Kill the Moon whatsoever.
    i to the

That still doesn’t mean Doctor Who ended. It just means it

Nothing from Kill the Moon onwards can be considered to be canon. Doctor
    Who ended in 2017.

had a disappointing episode. Big deal. In a programme that’s
lasted as long as Doctor Who, there are always going to be
a few episodes that are more disappointing than others.

Kill the Moon spelled the end for Doctor Who. The writers had totally
ran out of ideas and treated the audience like morons, like the morons
they had piloting a space shuttle including a low achieving delinquent
school girl. Why would anyone put people like that in space?

We can come up with some BS for that. Idris was just
working with House the whole time, playacting.

    Idris?

Did you actually watch the episode?

He keeps mentioning the episode but he doesn't seem to know
    what's actually in it!

Clue for Dave: Idris rhymes with TARDIS.

    What about Idris Elba?

    Is Idris Elba a woman?

No, but Melissa gave me the reference.

Geological surveys of the moon and its inerior show nothing of the kind.

In that case, The Pirate Planet can’t happen in any universe

Nope. The Doctor said it worked by neutralising inertia; since the

Douglas Adams directly from E E Smith's Lensman series.

Post hoc ergo propter hoc, again.

Since the Doctor left the linear induction corridor with exactly the

conservation laws. Neutralising inertial probably requires some kind of
anti-gravity or negative mass, but then so does the TARDIS.

Inertia is momentum. They’re the same thing. If you’re
neutralising inertia you’re literally neutralising momentum.
    That’s what inertia means.

    From DuckDuckGo

    inertia /ĭ-nûr′shə/
    noun

The tendency of a body at rest to remain at rest or of a body in
straight line motion to stay in motion in a straight line unless acted
on by an outside force; the resistance of a body to changes in momentum. Resistance or disinclination to motion, action, or change.
    "an entrenched bureaucracy's inertia."
That property of matter by which it tends when at rest to remain
so, and *when in motion to continue in motion* , and in the same
    straight line or direction, *unless acted on by some external force* ;

Thank you. It looks like my memory was cheating and I might’ve
been wrong about momentum being the same as inertia.

Never mind. As the Doctor himself once said: ‘Even I am
    occasionally wrong about some things.

OTOH inertia is proportional to mass, which means the corridor
is still violating the conservation of mass (with the side effect
of violating conservation of momentum as a byproduct
since that’s also proportional to mass.)

So it still ends up violating physics, and my wider point still
stands. (Not that I deserve such luck!)

Are you thinking mass times velocity?
