Some people see as the reason to have guns the idea that they need to protect themselves from the government.
In fact, if the government were to turn bad, guns won’t protect them. They would need to have nuclear weapons. I do not see anyone advocate that private citizens hold nuclear weapons.
When I said as much to a friend in Texas, she thought that I was mocking her, and she ended the friendship. In fact I was raising a legitimate point. Once again, if the government were to turn bad, guns won’t protect you. You would need to have nuclear
weapons.
What actually does protect these people is the constitutional system. And it was the right-wingers, not the left-wingers, that have been disrespecting it the most. Trump refused to accept the outcome of an election, which no liberal has done.
If you really want your people’s freedom: Work within the constitutional system. Use politics, not guns. If you want to own a gun, fine, you have a right to it. But do not think that guns will protect you from an entity that has at its disposal the
world’s most powerful military force.
