When I got my teeth cleaned less than two weeks ago, I considered
carrying a shirt to change into, since my linen jersey isn't
comfortable in the chair, then I reflected "hey I'm going to be on the
bike only twenty-four minutes" (It was twenty-one minutes today) "and
a couple of hours inside", and wore a T-shirt style jersey that pulls
back on my neck from the weight of the coins in my wallet. (The linen
jersey has a belt to support the pockets.)
On Friday, just too late to call, I broke a crown. (Big relief; I
thought I'd broken a tooth, but he polished up the remaining crown and
I was good to go.) (He was astonished that it wasn't "one of ours";
I've been going there nearly twenty years.)
So I called yesterday and got an appointment for today. (Minor
relief; I had pickles in progress and didn't want to go yesterday.)
Putting the cotton shirt on again this morning, I reflected "and when
I get there I'll put the wallet into my purse". Duh! I put the
wallet into my purse immediately, then got an extra bungee off the
hook to make sure the purse didn't bounce out of the pannier.
Of course, the trip back took more than twenty-one minutes, and I
needed to be sure the wallet went with me every time I dismounted.
Some day I'm going to retrofit my T-shirt jerseys with belts.
But it's going to be cool enough to wear a T-shirt under my jersey
soon, so there's a certain lack of urgency about that chore.
Not to mention that most of my trips feature long rides with short
forays into buildings and no sitting in recliners.
