Well a couple of my favorites were in the first 40 or so
but Japanese tastes for the action stuff like Dragon Ball and
the One Piece are very similar to Western people of the same
    ages.

I note that they neglect many award winning manga by
popular mangaka as Mizuki Shigeru whose GeGe No Kitaro or
Graveyard Kitaro and Showa:History of Japan.
Genshiken and Yawara are not listed nor Hyougemono.

While a couple of series by Takahashi Rumiko are there
she has tons of other works. Ranma 1/2 for example
which was very popular in Japan and overseas. Neither is
"Futaba-kun Change" a SF and gender switch story which had
great popularity at the time it was published.

So such lists are not of great interest and frequently
are based on the money they made for the publishers or some
    egocentric taste of the compiler.

Thanks for the link. I'm always interested in what other people
recommend although for myself just have a few categories of interest.
I find my biggest hurdle is I read English only, so sites I visit are
ones that provide an English translation. Second hurdle is that I use
the manga "aggregator" sites, and the quality of their search tools
varies. Not to mention, I have the feeling that because of copyright
and respect of authors' wishes they don't carry everything published.
Run into the same issues wrt anime, btw.
