    I see 4 possible responses.

    1) Enable effective counterattack of the source of the attacks on Ukraine grain and Russian embargo ships with long range weapons which the US has refused to supply and other countries like the UK can't supply in sufficient qty.
This would include attacking bases in Russia, aircraft launching cruise missiles in Russian airspace, and ships launching missiles from the Black Sea. A major escalation. I'm not sure it would actually restore grain shipments.

    2) Provide game changing weapons that would enable Ukraine to swiftly dominate the ground and eject Russian forces from their territory.
This would not be cluster munitions but cluster bombs.
And the cluster bombs would be dropped in quantity by bombers. Not fighter jets carrying 2 at a time but B-52 size aircraft able to drop lots of large bombs with many times the bomblets of munitions.
They would require protection by fighters and patriot missile batteries. The US Air Force becomes the Ukrainian air force. A direct combatant in the air.

    3) Accept hundreds of thousands of deaths (or more) from starvation and trigger the most massive migration in human history. They'll all be headed north.

    4) Fold....and quickly before it's too late.

A difficult choice and I would welcome other options I've missed.

Is that any less evil than our having diverted corn crops from food exports to ethanol production?

I can't really compare ethanol production to bombing grain terminals. Even if they might have some commonality of consequence.
