turns out to be optimistic. Breaking from Reuters:

    https://www.reuters.com/investigates/special-report/tesla-batteries-range/

Subhed: "About a decade ago, Tesla rigged the dashboard readouts in its electric cars to provide “rosy” projections of how far owners can drive before needing to recharge, a source told Reuters. The automaker last
year became so inundated with driving-range complaints that it created a special team to cancel owners’ service appointments."

I worry for Musk's credibility as this is added to exaggerated claims
about self-driving cars, muddying the waters of California's high-speed
rail by announcing a vapor-ware tube transport HyperLink, and his
ongoing tank of the former Twitter.

Too bad he's now a big part of the CenTex economy as I'd love for him to
lose out to the EV competition.

Tesla isn't the only company with that problem.

Almost every EV truck has a problem with fluctuating dash range numbers
due to a slew of environmental factors.
    Makes trip planning a nightmare.

How many of those manufacturers chose to display unrealistic numbers for
fully charged cars? (No trucks at the time at Tesla.)

    Makes trip planning a nightmare.

Indeed, although Tesla did take steps to help drivers not run down
    completely.

    Frankly....all of 'em.

Based on these results, the highway fuel economy label tends to be a very good predictor of the fuel economy observed during the on-road test at real highway speeds with vehicles powered by an ICE. However, most electric cars tested to date fall short of
both their electric consumption and range label values. For EVs, the difference between the window sticker and on-road consumption and range is further exacerbated by other factors, such as extreme temperatures and suggestions by automakers to charge to
less than 100 percent to extend battery life.

Tesla is the Volkswagen Diesel of EVs.

Well, I'm not talking about the mandated mileage sticker, but the car
    display.

The second part, refusing to take service appointments for lower than
    expected mileage is the capper.

Tesla is the Volkswagen Diesel of EVs.

    Good comparison.
