  • The problem....too many scandals

From ScottW@21:1/5 to All on Thu Aug 17 10:51:32 2023

It sure looks like the fix is in. "Nobody wants to go there. It’s easier for everybody to bury the McGonigal mess," a veteran Eastern European intelligence hand in Washington told me this week. Although the McGonigal scandal isn’t a partisan matter
on its face, since the rogue G-man commenced his international corruption during former President Donald Trump’s tenure and continued it into the current administration, we can safely bet that the Biden White House has no interest in discussing why itâ€
™s been so eager to support Rama and his corrupt government, even in Albanian domestic politics.

The only hope for the truth to come out is for Congress to take an interest in McGonigal’s dirty Balkan deals. Although some House Republicans have quietly asked questions about this affair, there are so many current House investigations into Biden-
related scandals that the McGonigal affair gets lost in the maze of corruption inquiries. That’s unfortunate because the full account of McGonigal’s Albanian antics is a shocking story that would rock Washington far beyond just the FBI.

Author John R. Schindler served with the National Security Agency as a senior intelligence analyst and counterintelligence officer.

It sure looks like the fix is in.

That's not a lede one would expect of a credible report.

Yes, that Deripaska. It's always bad news for Biden when Trump's
campaign manager's handler's Russian boss is involved.

    (U) The report includes significant information demonstrating that Paul Manafort's support for Russia and pro-Russian factions in Ukraine was
deeper than previously known. The report also details extremely
troubling information about the extent and nature of Manafort's
connection with Kilimnik and Manafort's passage of campaign polling data
to Kilimnik. Most troubling of all are indications that Kilimnik, and
Manafort himself, were connected to Russia's hack-and-leak operations.

    (U) Unfortunately, significant aspects of this story remain hidden from
the American public. Information related to Manafort's interactions with Kilimnik, particularly in April 2016, are the subject of extensive
redactions. Evidence connecting Kilimnik to the GRU's hack-and-leak
operations are likewise redacted, as are indications of Manafort's own connections to those operations. There are redactions to important new information with regard to Manafort's meeting in Madrid with a
representative of Oleg Deripaska. The report also includes extensive information on Deripaska, a proxy for Russian intelligence and an
associate of Manafort. Unfortunately, much of that information is
    redacted as well.

As if Manafort crimes even compare. He was not selling his high level position in gov't for cash.
    GMAFB.

And I'll bet the G-man doesn't ever see a courtroom. They'll be a plea deal as this whole pile
of stinking trash casts a very bad smell over the entire DoJ.

No, Manafort traded his position as Trump's campaign manager for loan forgiveness. IIRC, $10 million. Let me look... even worse: "he owed
Deripaska close to $20 million, according to legal complaints
    Deripaska's lawyers filed..."

He "still faces separate federal charges out of Washington" according to
    the NYT.

Bad as it is, free-lancing in Albania and hiding the fees doesn't
implicate the DoJ. Indeed, the FBI prosecuting an FBI agent shows integrity.

Being guilty of tax crimes doesn't erase his Russian ties,
    summarized here:

    https://apnews.com/article/122ae0b5848345faa88108a03de40c5a

Working off his debt was directly related to the campaign, so you're
beside the point: he wasn't charged for delivering polling data to
Russian operatives or for getting the Republican platform Ukraine
    portion changed in Russia's favor.

    And I'll bet the G-man doesn't ever see a courtroom. They'll be

That's incoherent. On your part, just to be clear. The other charges
were mentioned in the initial reports, not an after-the-fact justification.

Bad as it is, free-lancing in Albania and hiding the fees doesn't
implicate the DoJ. Indeed, the FBI prosecuting an FBI agent shows

Oh yes...he got a good firm slap on the wrist that left a mark.

Most people would prefer to not be guilty of a felony and face up to
    five years in jail.

WSJ: "McGonigal faces separate charges in Washington, D.C., where a
federal grand jury has indicted him for concealing his relationship with
a former employee of an Albanian intelligence agency.

Prosecutors there say McGonigal received more than $225,000 from the
former Albanian official and hid aspects of their relationship, which
created a conflict of interest with his duties as an FBI official. A
lawyer for McGonigal on Tuesday said McGonigal was still working to
reach a possible deal on those charges."
