    RIP!
A long, long, long time ago,,,,
    in a land far away,
I planned loads and unloads on the USS Cleveland!
    Yeah.
    I was a USMC 1st Lt., doing a Major's billet as
a Generals staff as the Asst. Div. Embarkation Officer.

Now, 52 years later, they sunk it!

    from
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Cleveland_(LPD-7)

"USS Cleveland (LPD-7), an Austin-class amphibious transport dock, was
the third ship of the United States Navy to be named for the city in
Ohio. Her keel was laid down at Ingalls Shipbuilding of Pascagoula, Mississippi. She was launched on 7 May 1966, and was commissioned on 21
April 1967 at Norfolk, Virginia. At the time of decommissioning, she was
the third-oldest commissioned ship in the US Navy, behind USS
Constitution ("Old Ironsides") and USS Enterprise.
    ----
Cleveland was normally assigned as part of an Amphibious Readiness Group
(ARG) and, with her embarked Marines and other forces, performed a wide
    variety of missions.
    ---
In 1972 Cleveland served close in shore in the DMZ region as a platform
for seven Marine AH-1 Cobra helicopters performing operations on NVA
troop and supply lines. In January 1973 Cleveland was in a task force on
its way to make a landing with Marines in North Vietnam when the Paris
peace treaty was signed. After the Vietnam War cease-fire in January
1973, Cleveland joined Task Force 78 in the mine-clearing effort of
Haiphong Harbor and Operation End Sweep."

The Lessons Learned booklet that circulated within government after
Desert Storm strongly emphasized the need for more roll-on, roll-off
shipping for both the military and to contract from civilians. Yet Biden still needed a huge, fragile pier to supply Gaza.

    Yes to your above.

It was / is my firm opinion that that was a big
waste of money for little aid to be actually
    either ideally, or especially realistically
    delivered.
Large expense for solely public relations
    camouflage. Just pure appearances.
You can take seriously heavily loaded
trucks regularly flowing in from Egypt.

Two years ago we drove into the Sinai,
    they load their trucks heavy!
