In 1945, President Franklin D. Roosevelt gifted a Douglas DC-3 to King
Abdul Aziz Ibn Saud, the founder of modern Saudi Arabia. This aircraft
was presented to aid the establishment of Saudia, the Saudi national
airline, and marked a significant gesture of goodwill. The U.S. also
provided technical support through Trans World Airlines to assist with
the airline’s early operations.
