• Worldwide Soaring Turnpoint Exchange looking for a new server

From John Leibacher@21:1/5 to All on Sun Jul 23 19:16:54 2023
It looks like after 28 years of fantastic service to the soaring community, Günther Eichhorn will be shutting down his servers (soaringweb.org, and two mirrors) sometime in the not too distant future. Fortunately, we have Tom Serkowski's server (
http://serkowski.com/soaring/) and Luke Szczepaniak's server (https://soaring.silentflight.ca/) so all of the content will continue to be available, you'll just to have to go to one of those servers.

If anyone has a bit of storage and bandwidth available on a linux server that they might be willing to make available to the WSTX, please contact me at john.leibacher.wstx@gmail.com

    THANK YOU GÜNTHER !!!

One minor point, most people read R.A.S. with a Google interface, which obscures email addresses. So you need to change your address to
    something like john.leibacker.wstx <remove this> AT gmail.(you know the
    rest).

Granted, most people using Google here aren't likely to have a linux
server available, but there's always a chance.

One wonders why such a useful and international resource is not hosted,
or at least mirrored in the FAI/IGC servers?

More to this story. I contacted John when I could not connect.
He reminded me of the above.
It looks like soaringweb.org really is down already.
Pass the word about options to your friends.

SSA has set up a hosting solution for soaringweb.org and awaiting John to point to the new DNS and upload the content.

Likewise, a solution using the FAI/IGC Servers is being planned.

Thanks to Frank Whitely and the Soaring Society of America, <A HREF="http://soaringweb.org">soaringweb.org</a> lives again! (It may take up to 24 hours for the name server changes to propagate around the internet, but let me know if you are still
experiencing a lack of connection after Sunday evening GMT.) We hope to populate it and designate it as the principal site in the very near future. For the moment it simply provides links to the servers maintained courtesy of Tom Serkowski (<A HREF="
    http://serkowski.com/soaring/"> serkowski.com/soaring/</a>)
    and Luke Szczepaniak (<A HREF="http://soaring.silentflight.ca/">soaring.silentflight.ca</a>).

We hope to have an additional mirror site available in Europe in the very near future.

The mail form is out of service for the moment.

Apologies for the interruption of service, and thanks to all for your direct-mail feedback!

With many thanks again to Frank Whitely, and the SSA, the new http://soaringweb.org is now in operation as the principal server, with links to the two mirrors provided by Tom Serkowski (serkowski.com/soaring/) and Luke Szczepaniak (soaring.silentflight.
ca). We are working on a third mirror in Europe, which will hopefully be online shortly.

Please let me know if you find anything missing or strange -- there was a lot of goings-on under the hood.
