• We need your help we need a canopy

From Illini Glider Club Vice President@21:1/5 to All on Mon Sep 4 20:12:36 2023
Dear soaring community, we have one two seater glider a Krosno Kr-03 (300 series glider with front skid also known as Puchatek )
We have 8 young student pilots who are eager to carry on with their passion. Unfortunately, our Krosno's canopy split beyond repair. Please look in the hidden corners of your hangar and barn you might have one. As is we are out of business.
    Thank you for your time.
    Welcome any feedback.

There are very few of those gliders in the US - less than a dozen at peak (I think) and only 9 on the registry database right now. It wouldn't be hard to reach out directly to those listed owners.

There was (is?) an un-airworthy example at my home field (N82 Wurtsboro) I will poke around and see if it's in a hangar somewhere. Maybe they'd be willing to part out the whole canopy and frame.

Our club (Cypress Soaring) also has a Kr-03, with a canopy that is serviceable, but naturally it's just a matter of time until we'll need to replace it. We have in the past looked into having one made - very expensive because a mold needs to be made for
the first one. We might have an interest in splitting the cost of the mold with another club (or more). No idea at this point what the costs might be, but if there is interest, let me know and we can do some research on current prices.

Is this the KR-03A? If so, the Barry family in Edgewater, FL may be of help. They hold the TC and were trying to set up peoduction a generation ago: 3044 Willow Oak Dr., 32141

I texted Tim Barry on your behalf to see if he had any canopies in storage with the Krosno manufacturing jigs. He suggested LP Aero Plastics in Jeanette, PA (724-744-4448) and said they have made a canopy for the Krosno in the past.

    Good Luck,

    Paul A.
