  • TCSC New Project

    Our club had had some very good projects the last four years, two donated gliders and a completely rebuilt 2-33 that will fly tomorrow. Moving on to our next project you will see two LS3A's combined to make one.
    The first LS3 came from Miami and it was one that I flew back in the 1970's and into the 80's. It was damaged in a hurricane and slightly damaged that consisted of vertical fin damage and a few scrapes on the wings and the usual hurricane damage from a
    trailer rollover during a hurricane.
    So, once again here we go with a great project for our youth program. The next question is what shall we name this bird, We have the Pirate painted on the Phoebus, Too Nasty on the Libelle, the Sky Hag on the 2-33, LS3A??? any ideas. Old Bob, The purist

    As for naming.. how about the "Redlands Flyer" (RF) or "US-1" or "Coral Castle" (CC) or "Robert is Here" (RIH)

    It may have ben Irma, I was not in Miami at that time. Thinking about naming it Rudy!! Hey R remember that guy?: What about UT, Uncle Tom! Or maybe TTT, Two To Tango!
    On second thought it was not Irma, it was much more recent than that, may have been Charley in 2004. Old Bob, The Purist

    You can go to the Soaring Forum Group and see what we have started with, I will be posting pics along the way for you to see. The red nose LS was the Miami ship and I bought the other one and gave it to the club to use for parts. Old Bob, The Purist

    Tony, yes, that was N69EE I do believe that did at one time belong to Chicho, Ernesto Estrada. There were three LS3's in the club, Paul Lohman, Bennie Flowers, and the club ship. When the club folded everything was sold and the LS3 club ship was bought
    and taken to Homestead. After the rollover from Irma parts of the control mechanism were removed and never located again. Our club got the ship from that owner and I purchased the other LS3 that had been crashed into some trees as I was told. I gave the
    ship to the club for parts. The parts were salvaged and installed into EE for the current restoration. We just received a new canopy from Australia and installing it into the old frame which was in perfect condition after the rollover.
    During that period the LS3 was not flown very much, we only had twelve or so members and everyone had their own ship except maybe one guy. Eileen and I had bought our 20 at that time and either of us would fly the 3 when the other was in the 20. Bennie,
    Alfonso and I were the everyday flyers along with Dr. Fox.

    As far as I can tell you at this point the Australian canopy is excellent
