• Kempton Izuno - 718sm Straight Out Attempt - Mon Apr 3 2023 - 18W Reddi

From WaltWX@21:1/5 to All on Sun Apr 2 20:56:26 2023
I hope you aren't doing anything important on Monday Apr 3rd... because Kempton FNX will be attempting a 719sm goal flight in his ASH-25.

He has Mode-C transponder plus FLARM so I expect it should appear on the OGN network

    Garmin InReach tracker: https://share.garmin.com/KemptonIzuno

This should be an exciting two place record flight using wave and thermal activity flying behind a cold front moving through Southern California

He's probably not registered or something like that. Try this:

    https://glidertracker.org/#lat=35.173&lon=-118.419=5&z=10&id=

His FLARM may be out of range of the nearest OGN receiver. Kempton is carrying a SeeYou Navigator device and it is transmitting his location under the NAVITER category

I'm quite surprised that a pilot of Kemp's stature, flying an ASH-25 on such an ambitious task around through California's multitude of overlapping airspace classifications, Military Operating Areas and Restricted Areas, that the aircraft is not equipped
with either ADS-B or even a Mode S transponder. Granted, he is still legal, as gliders are not required to be equipped with a transponder, much less ADS-B, but considering what he is attempting, it seems rather shortsighted. Just my opinion.

Wow, fascinating flight. It looks like they're entering the sketchiest part right now, trying to jump from the thermal to wave, and it looks like the thermals aren't giving them a ton of altitude buffer over the mountains.

Best of luck......... that will be an awesome flight whatever happens!

Looks like he's on the ground just north of Palmdale? Put up a fight by the looks of the tracks.
