• Buying for Friends

From Tom Kunich@21:1/5 to All on Mon Dec 9 20:04:36 2024
I ran across a DeRosa Merak like mine in the Ukraine and am having it
shipped to me. It was dirt cheap though shipping wasn't.

It is a 54 cm which is the size a good friend rides. It will ptobably need
a repaint since it appears to have enough paint damage that it won't be repairable.

I had intended to install the 11 speed LTWoo shift group I have and a pair
of Shimano brakes. I have a set of decent Bontrager wheels and a new chain
or two laying around. I also have a crankset or two laying about.

But then I also ran into a brand new LTWoo 10 speed group for $128 plus shipping from China. So I bought that as well and will put everything on
    the DeRosa.

If the paint cannot be easily repaired, I have a local painter that can do
    the work on the cheap.

Then I will spring it on my friend. Total cost on my part will be around
$800 or so and we have been riding together for a long time. He used to
have a steel DeRosa that he really loved but as he grew older the 56 cm
frame just had too long a reach for him. Seem like a good Merry Christmas
    don't you think?

Probably not. It's only 16 days until Christmas. I don't think you
can get delivery from Ukraine, through customs, and via a local
    delivery service by then.
