• Big foot and biking

From Catrike Ryder@21:1/5 to All on Mon Mar 24 05:47:26 2025
Several weeks ago my feet problems became unbearable. Not only could I
not ride, walking was painful. I had one pair of old sandals that I
could wear to walk, and they fell apart. I finally did what I should
    have done long ago....

The foot doctor said, "hmmmm, you've got big nasty corns on several of
your toes. It's no wonder your feet hurt."

I can't do anything about my neuropathy, but now I've gotten rid of
    the corns.

I did a small ride yesterday on the heel sling pedals and size 12
sneakers. The issues with my feet were much less of a problem. I'm
going to try going back to SPD pedals and shoes. Doctor says get a big
toe box and use heel liners. My last bike shoes were UE47s, and I just
    bought a pair of UE48s. I think that transfers to 12/13. I believe I
wore 10.5 when I was in college.

Maybe it will work, maybe not. I gotta ride.

My foot size is 44-45 Brazilian, but I buy size 47 tennis shoes/sneakers because my feet have become wider and my toes stick out
    at angles due to arthritis.
Size 47 are much more comfortable. No more blisters.

Very slightly in length. The tendon that holds the "front" and
"back"of the foot and gives it an "arc" wears and that makes you more
    flat footed.
But they do grow a lot in width. Bones tend to drift apart.

Oh dear, my son clocked in normally at European size 48, Shimano shoes
size 49 when he was 15. Above 50 it would be almost impossible to rent
    skiing or ice skating shoes.

How big must one's feet be to not need skis when skiing.

    +1 A real trend.

When I was young, we seldom sold anything over 46 or 47. Now
young people have huge flippers! My grandsons for example,
in their 20s, wear 50 and 52 and they are not unusual in
    their age group.
