  • Red Dawn

    From AMuzi@21:1/5 to All on Fri Aug 1 07:58:20 2025
    Spectacular dawn today with a dark red-orange sun, sharply
    outlined against a gauzy blue-grey sky.

    Like another planet in some Sci-Fi tale. Impressive!

    Red sky at night, sailors' delight.
    Red sky at morning, sailors take warning.

    Now, you wait for the storm. Please fasten your seat belts.

    Please let me know if the aliens have arrived.

    No red sky on the left coast. It's a little foggy and cold (54F at
    7am PDT). Slightly depressive and dreary, but there is hope. The
    weather should improve after this mornings ritual trudge in the park: <https://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lon=-122.09304015350371&lat=37.08133745279595>

    Yes that's the adage which usually holds some weight. Not
    dispositive but likely.

    This however is a temporary local phenomenon, not in your
    area right now.

    Map of USA air quality:
    <https://www.airnow.gov/national-maps/>
    Arlington, WI:
    <https://www.airnow.gov/?city=Arlington&state=WI&country=USA>
    We have similar air pollution on the left coast during fire season.

    I have one of these air quality monitor on my house: <https://www2.purpleair.com/products/purpleair-pa-ii>
    It reports my local air quality to the web: <https://map.purpleair.com/air-quality-standards-us-epa-aqi?opt=%2F1%2Flp%2Fa10%2Fp604800%2FcC0&select=36239#12.02/37.05841/-122.06583>
    Not too much smoke here, probably due to the lack of a suitable fire.
    The erratic spikes in PM2.5 are from neighbors burning trash in their
    wood burners. During the CZU fires: <https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CZU_Lightning_Complex_fires>
    I bought an "air purifier" mostly because I couldn't sleep. An
    earlier version of this model:

    My ride this morning in Central Il. No issues with the lungs but my eyes
    are burning a bit and watering. It was weird to say the least. A faint
    smell of smoke not huge presence but a red sun.

    Some live maps:

    It has been another smoky season in the great white North.
