Wow Justine...do y'all think you can find a shred of truth at the Fox network? >Talk about idiots!

I don't have cable so I am not a regular viewer of any of them but the
actual "news" on Fox is not slanted any more than MSNBC or CNN when I
watch them, usually at a doctor's office or something. The prime time entertainment shows are not the same as the news and shouldn't be
confused with news. They are partisan hacks selling eyeballs
(advertising). Pick the echo chamber you want to be in and watch.
The slant on the news is mostly the stories they choose and the ones
they ignore. The actual facts are pretty much true even if cherry
picked and that is both sides. If you really want the truth, dig
deeper yourself and don't believe you are getting the whole story from
    any of them.

Sorry Justine but this country doesn't bow and scrape to the lowest

Actually your country has done some really crappy stuff over the years.

The prime time >entertainment shows are not the same as the news and shouldn't be
confused with news. They are partisan hacks selling eyeballs
(advertising). Pick the echo chamber you want to be in and watch.
The slant on the news is mostly the stories they choose and the ones
they ignore. The actual facts are pretty much true even if cherry
picked and that is both sides. If you really want the truth, dig
deeper yourself and don't believe you are getting the whole story from
    any of them.

Both Reuters and Associated Press provide a decent source of online
news. But, one must be able to read, so Donnie is probably left out.

Lock 'em all up including Trumps supporters.
When are you going to learn to properly punctuate?

And what, oh dumbass, have Trump's supporters done that's illegal?
When are you going to learn to think on your own? Put down the Tucker.

Are you really disparaging the United States Army, dummy?
More like one of its battlefield promotions.

    My My!
    Y'all are a silly lass.
I can't buy a 12 ga or ammo for it until I get my non-restricted firearms license.
BTW that "non-restricted" refers to the type of firearms....not that I can go willy nilly and buy whatever I want.
After all we're a bit more civilized up here.
As for the target shooting location, I have rural relatives with large properties such as woodlots.
I'm sure they'd let me loose for target shooting on occassion.

You need to go to a range and get training. I doubt someone with wood
lots would let someone go shooting in the woods. Drop the value of trees, with pieces of metal in them. Plus, lead shot is not healthy for the environment.

    LETS GO BRANDON!!!!!!!!

Find a stump to kill ... like Harry.

Lock 'em all up including Trumps supporters.

When are you going to learn to properly punctuate?

And what, oh dumbass, have Trump's supporters done that's illegal?
When are you going to learn to think on your own? Put down the Tucker.

Back when I was a youngster the American Navy visited every summer..sometimes a couple carriers the same year. It was always a treat to go down and tour them.
The last one was the Coral Sea. They came and tied up at our Dockyard their last year and came back a few months later to our Pief 20/21 because they liked the city. Believe that was their farewell tour.
Since then we have seen a few of the Nimitz class carriers but they drop anchor out in the mid harbour and no tours.

I got to walk around on the Forrestal once at NOB but the sombitch was
so big I didn't get to see a lot of it. I also got to walk around the >>Midway in San Diego. Big but nothing like the Forrestal.

Since then we have seen a few of the Nimitz class carriers but they drop anchor out in the mid harbour and no tours.

I got to walk around on the Forrestal once at NOB but the sombitch was
so big I didn't get to see a lot of it. I also got to walk around the
Midway in San Diego. Big but nothing like the Forrestal.
I was on small ships, two 311s and two 210s.

The oligarchs used to have bigger boats than that.

These days there are quite a few yachts that size but I doubt they
have a 5" gun, Hedgehogs and ASW torpedoes.

The three ships I was on in the Navy were all much smaller than some
of today's super yachts. Two were mid 50's (commissioned) Destroyer
Escorts, 315' LOA. One originally had the Hedgehog system and the other
had a rocket propelled ASW warhead called "Weapon Alpha". Both systems
had been removed by the time I reported aboard the ships. They both
had twin 3"/50's and Mark 46 torpedo launchers along with 50 Cal
    machine guns.

I don't know much about the Hedgehog system other than it was
developed by the Brits in WWII. Weapon Alpha came later.

Both ships had been updated with hangers and flight decks for the
unmanned "Dash" helicopter system but the Dash system had also been
retired by the time I was on either of the ships. The hanger was
converted into an additional crew's berthing area to accommodate
12 additional crew members for a project called "ITASS". I was
one of the ITASS crew members, so I slept in the hanger.

The third ship was a PG (USS Surprise, PG 97) and although had
beautiful lines (to me) was not particularly seaworthy in
heavy seas. Unique to it was it's propulsion systems.
It had two diesel engines for cruising at up to 12 knots and
a gas turbine for speeds in excess of 37 knots (43 mph). I
know for a fact that those published speeds were conservative.
During a routine called a "crashback" it could go from
full speed forward on the gas turbine to a full stop in less
than the ship's length which was only 165 feet. It was lightly
    armored with:

    1 × 3 in (76 mm)/50 caliber gun
    1 × Bofors 40 mm gun mount
    4 × .50 caliber machine guns

but made up for it in speed and ultra maneuverability.
The USS Surprise was an exciting experience in many ways.

We once got a tour of a USCG patrol boat in the 200 ft range that had dual diesel and turbine power. The turbine used so much fuel that they had a very limited usage budget, something like less than 30 minutes per month as I recall.

Seems as if a lot of the Russians boats were turbine. Acquaintance told
me one time they were anchored near a bunch of Russian boats and there was
a warning of a possible attack. Our ships were still making steam when
the Russians lit off the turbines and scooted.

Some interesting ITASS tidbits on Google books:

    https://books.google.com/books?id=eJ_JDwAAQBAJ&pg=PT162&lpg=PT162&dq=project++%22ITASS%22

We once got a tour of a USCG patrol boat in the 200 ft range that had
dual diesel and turbine power. The turbine used so much fuel that they
had a very limited usage budget, something like less than 30 minutes per month as I recall.

Seems as if a lot of the Russians boats were turbine. Acquaintance told
me one time they were anchored near a bunch of Russian boats and there was
a warning of a possible attack. Our ships were still making steam when
the Russians lit off the turbines and scooted.

The WAVPs were diesel and carried enough to go around the world. (Old
sea plane tenders that had big fuel tanks). They could also start up
    and go pretty fast.

The USS Surprise was an exciting experience in many ways.

The Alpha (Asroc) used the MK 44 and later the 46 as the warhead. It
was just a rocket propelled torpedo.
I was the mount captain for the Mk 44s. I knew quite a bit about them
55 years ago. We had 2 triple tube mounts and 4 live fish p[lus a
practice <inert> one. They were totally autonomous after launch. I
called them our doomsday weapon because if "this is not a drill" I was
supposed to pull the salt water plugs and manually put in presets I
got from CIC. The motors were salt water activated. When the 02 deck
went underwater, the fish would go kill the sub that killed us.
The WHECs also had hedgehogs in addition to the tubes.
Hedgehogs were actually pretty cool for the early 40s. They threw a
warhead with about 45 pounds of RDX and only went off if they hit
something, then they all went off. That didn't disturb the water on a
miss. It was way better than depth charges that boiled the water every
time you rolled one and depended on setting the depth right to even
    have a chance.
I was on a couple of 210s with 3" 50s but the WHEC cutters all had 5"
    38s.
That mount was the best place to go and chill when you were on station
at sea. You really wanted to be up in the mount captain chair tho.
When blue water broke over the mount, the gasket around the barrel
flange leaked. Lower in the mount might get your book wet. ;-)

Don't believe I've ever heard y'all claiming to have served your country.
I kept the godless communists from ever getting past the Wilson
Bridge, unless a blue state elected them. (6 years USCG and Navy) >>>>>>

    Thank you for your service.

I got to walk around on the Forrestal once at NOB but the sombitch was >>>>> so big I didn't get to see a lot of it. I also got to walk around the >>>>> Midway in San Diego.

Some interesting ITASS tidbits on Google books:

    https://books.google.com/books?id=eJ_JDwAAQBAJ&pg=PT162&lpg=PT162&dq=project++%22ITASS%22

We once got a tour of a USCG patrol boat in the 200 ft range that had dual diesel and turbine power. The turbine used so much fuel that they had a very limited usage budget, something like less than 30 minutes per month as I recall.

A retired Rear Admiral is working on a book about ITASS that is
scheduled for publication later this year. He interviewed me
via e-mail last year regarding my recollections of being
involved in the project. Surprised me because at the time I
was involved I was a junior enlisted crew member. But, I was
promised a copy of the book when it is released.

Seems as if a lot of the Russians boats were turbine. Acquaintance told
me one time they were anchored near a bunch of Russian boats and there was
a warning of a possible attack. Our ships were still making steam when
the Russians lit off the turbines and scooted.

Just about all US Navy combat ships are now turbine powered (or
nuclear). The USS Spruance (DD-963) was the first US destroyer
that used gas turbine power, commissioned in 1975. It's range
    was:
6,000 nautical miles at 20 knots and
3,300 nautical miles at 30 knots

It was decommissioned in 2005. I enjoy reading about the history of
Navy ships and what becomes of them. Some are transferred to
foreign countries for use in there Navy's (i.e. the USS Surprise
was transferred to the Turkish Navy), some are sold for scrape
and some are used as target practice and sunk. This was the fate
of the USS Spruance. She was sunk as a target for aircraft launched
Harpoon missiles on 8 December 2006.

Today, the bulk of the US Navy is made up of the Arleigh Burke class of
guided missile destroyers (DDGs) of which 69 are in active status.

The DDG combines the capabilities of frigates (formerly DE's),
destroyers and cruisers. They are all equipped with the integrated
Aegis combat system and are all gas turbine powered. They have
four GE gas turbines on each ship developing 26,250 bhp *each*.
Range is 4,400 nautical miles at 20 knots with top speed in excess
    of 30 knots (35 mph).

My coworker at Texas Instrument was one of the engineers on the Harpoon missile. He said when they were testing, he had to figure out how to slow
