This is the first time in my lifetime and maybe since Lincoln that the
Secret Service has been called to testify against a protectee. In the
past, through JFK's philandering, Nixon's misadventures, Clinton's
problems and all of the presidential family scandals, the Secret
Service has always said they had nothing to say about a protectee's
activity.
It does make some degree of sense if their job is to be a
non-intrusive bodyguard that the protectee has to tolerate everywhere
they go.
