"Sewing with Nancy" host dies after battle with cancerST. LOUIS (WBAY)
    -

A familiar face to Public Television viewers has died.

"Sewing with Nancy" host Nancy Zieman passed away Nov. 14 after a long
    battle with cancer.

She was surrounded by family, according to the company bearing her
    name.

Zieman founded the show in 1982. It has become the nation's
    longest-running sewing and quilting program.

Zieman founded Nancy's Notions in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, in 1979. Her
company was purchased by Tacony Corporation out of St. Louis in 2003.
Nancy continued to be the face of Nancy's Notions.

“Nancy was a very dear friend, a very kind and compassionate person
with a strong Christian faith,” said Scott Stanton, vice president of administration at Nancy’s Notions. “She served as a great example for
us all to follow. She will be greatly missed.”

Nancy's Notions says donations are welcome in Nancy's name to
Wisconsin Public Television or a local hospice organization.

The 2017-2018 season of "Sewing with Nancy" will air with segments
taped before Nancy's retirement and past popular topics.

I remember watching episodes of her show occasionally and
getting her catalog. Very straight-forward instructions
presented in a calm, reassuring manner.

Many of today's presenters should study her shows for
how to do it right. Too many today go for the hyperactive
approach to just about everything, and it's a real turnoff.

    RIP Nancy.

Nyssa, who seems to only do sewing repairs for neighbors
these days but has done a lot of sewing of home items
    in the more recent past
