• Crockpot Chicken

From fos@sdf.org@21:1/5 to All on Mon Feb 24 15:50:55 2025
eww, i thought. my niece said that's what she was making for
dinner at my mom's house on saturday. i was prepared to have a
bit then stop at Mighty Taco for decent food on the way home.

turns out pulled crockpot chicken is sorta' edible. she didn't
say what exactly she was making, just said crockpot chicken. used
four whole boneless breasts, a can of cream of chicken soup,
some stuffing out of a box, a packet of gravy mix, and a cup of
water. i would have been able to eat more than i did in some hard
taco shells with tomato, lettuce, and cheese.

thankfully it wasn't the whole chicken i had pictured her making
in my mind. that would have been just plain nasty. bluegh.

Pass this crockpot chicken recipe along to your niece.

Four (4) whole boneless chicken breasts or the pieces you
like as long as they are SKINLESS. Boneless or bone-in,
    it doesn't matter.

1 can cream of chicken soup
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 can cream of celery soup

NO water or liquid of any sort and if you feel the need
the canned soups can be stirred together a bit. Empty
all these cans on top of your selected chicken parts.
Some people like to add a dash or two or three of
poultry seasoning to the mix. I don't as I didn't
think it added anything special. NO salt either.

Cover and cook on low for 4-6 hours if using thawed
meat. Six to eight hours if your chicken is frozen.
You'll need to go by the times of your slow cooker as
you would be familiar with it's cooking temperature.

When ready to serve, prepare a pan of white rice, do
NOT cook your rice in with the chicken. Serve the
chicken over rice with a green vegetable or a salad
and some crusty bread to soak up that gravy.

Some folks will eat shitty food like that to not offend a relative. Not
me. Your niece should get together with Dave's niece, who seemingly
will eat just about anything (and everything).

She's on Ozempic and thinner than Dave now.

I just made a great chicken soup too. We had a roasted chicken for
supper last night. I stripped the meat of the bones this morning an
threw the carcass in a pot with some chopped onion, carrot, celery and a
little garlic and a couple bay leaves. My wife had saved all the
drippings from the roast so they went in too. I had a bowl of it for
    lunch and I was impressed.

I will do pretty much the same thing except that I'll throw the whole
carcass in the crockpot. After a couple of hours, the meat falls off the
bones. The bones get dumped and the soup proceeds in any number of
directions. The flesh strips off the bones so cleanly that you can use
them in any number of craft projects.

I sometimes make a dish a bit like that but no stuffing and I add
various seasonings. Makes a sort of pulled pork 'chicken supreme'
(common name around my area is 'company chicken'). I debone all the
meat before it goes in the crockpot.

Some make it with chopped up veggies and/or frozen veggies. VegAll is
used by some but can be overly mushy.

In her clumsy way, Carol is trying to say, "I steer clear unless
I can identify the source of the tilapia." She often verbs nouns

Identification of the source is required by law, but it's not
always obviously displayed in the store, despite the intent of
the law. I see there are exceptions for small businesses.

I don't know what source Carol's tilapia mentions, but I bet Hawaiian
tilapia is caught by humble fishermen in abundant Hawaiian springs.

Serve the
chicken over rice with a green vegetable or a salad
and some crusty bread to soak up that gravy.

she'll like this, thanks for posting. i'll pass it on.

is still not something we'd do in a crockpot, my wife's reaction
was pretty much the same as mine.

in a dutch oven at a campfire though, that we would like. char
some bone in chicken thighs over open flames, skinless, add to
dutch oven, cover with the canned soups, cover the dutch oven
and let it cook low and slow not too close to the fire. serve
    with campfire skillet cornbread.

i never had pulled chicken before until saturday and don't
think i want it again. would be ok for tacos if cooked in
chicken or vegetable stock, but even then, i still prefer
dicing, marinating and stir frying the chicken instead.
