• Talenti Gelato

From ItsJoanNotJoAnn@21:1/5 to All on Fri Mar 28 21:19:55 2025
I bought a pint of Talenti gelato today, salted caramel
to be exact. Wrestle, wrestle, wrestle with the lid.
Get a firm grip on the container and wrestle some more,
won't budge. Try once more, not moving, temple veins
are bulging. I've got one of those OXO jar openers that
wouldn't budge that top so I resorted to an awl. Pry,
pry, pry and FINALLY it goes flying across the room and
it seems Talenti knows they have a problem with these lids.
Their suggestion was to run it under hot water, good grief.

A mangled lid and to be frank, the stuff is really not that
impressive. It has more of a burnt coffee taste rather than
caramel. Talenti gelato and Ben & Jerry's ice cream are on
sale, but I think I'll be passing up this brand in the future.

I've bought Talenti over the years with no problems... my fave is their
non - dairy Roman Raspberry Sorbetto...

And I like their plastic pint containers, I recycle them for other uses, especially to freeze soups, for work lunches, etcetera...

Downside, it's about five bux per pint, so expensive...

I won't buy Ben & Jerry's because they are a libtard outfit, and they
are very explicitly pro - Hamas and anti - Semitic, among other
    things...

    "YMMV", as they say...

I don't buy ice cream much anymore, but when I want to treat myself I
    like Haagen-Dazs...

I don't buy cheap ice cream, life is too short... so get the best you
can as it's an affordable "small luxury"...

Next time, take it to a machine shop. They can heat the lid with
oxy-acetylene torches and clamp it firmly in a vise and easily twist off
    the lid for you.

I don't blame you. One should not have to fight to get a container open
only to find a mediocre product.

I've never eaten gelato. Apparently, it's kind of like ice cream.
I would have suggested the hot water and hard tapping on the
lid-edge approach for anything other than that type of food.

You've never had it? That's a shame. It's good. It is a lot like ice
cream, but it is not as rich and it is sweeter. They use milk instead
of cream and ad more sugar. I have made it a couple times. Maybe I
should do it again and pretend that it is a healthy alternative to
    ice cream.

Use Stevia? That seems it would work.
