• Twinkies are 95 years old

From Ed P@21:1/5 to All on Sun Apr 6 10:02:43 2025
Watching CBS Sunday Morning, they noted the Hostess Twinkies were
    invented this day in 1930.

Why? How did those horrid things survive for so long?

Originally, they weren't so bad. They were filled with (IIRC)
banana cream instead of sweetened Crisco.

I imagine kids and people with degraded tastebuds still like them.

I guess I am not the only one who really does not like those things. I
had one back in the late 1950s and I have not got over the extreme disappointment enough to venture to try another.

I seem to remember hearing Twinkies have the half-life of plutonium. ;)

If they had one on the set, I bet it was from the first
batch they ever baked. You can even get them fried now.

Fried Twinkies gained popularity as a state fair staple in the early
2000s, with the idea spreading from a Brooklyn restaurant to fairs
across the country, and later even becoming a frozen, packaged food item
    sold at Walmart

So I was mid-50s when they were introduced. We have a different
    "forever" staring point

i used to like them. now, like many things that come
from corporate factories for producing overprocessed
sweet stuff it has little taste other than sweet.

there was one Little Debbie product i liked but i've
not had any of those in years either (Oatmeal Creme Pies
i think they're called). those might still sort of have
some oatmeal taste - but i'm not too likely to care now
as i can make things that do have good flavor.

I guess maybe I was spoiled. My mother was a great cook and baker. There
were a few commercially made cookies and such that we liked, like those
cookies with an icing topping. They were a rate treat for us, but most
of the time we were happy to settle for my mother's home made cookies,
    tarts, pies and cakes.
