• Nathan"s Onion Rings. Meets Expectations

From Ed P@21:1/5 to All on Thu Apr 10 19:51:13 2025
I bought some frozen Nathan's Onion rings and made them for dinner
tonight. They met expectations. To clarify, my expectations were
    extremely low.

They cooked up nicely in the air fryer in 13 minutes. Nice and crispy
and you would expect. That is the good news. The only good news.

Onion rings is a poor description. A more accurate description would
be: A ring of breading formed around a very thin vegetable membrane.

They will be featured in an episode of Meals for Lazy Old People.

I've never liked onion rings. I do remember when I first moved here to
SC my mother had at least 6 bags of frozen battered onion rings in the
freezer. I believe the brand was Ore Ida. I asked her if she wanted me
to heat up some onion rings in the oven and she said no. Apparently my
dad liked them so she kept buying them but she forgot they already had
some. I wound up throwing away a lot of frozen onion rings. I won't be
    trying the Nathan's brand. ;)

I like them if they are properly made with a decent amount of onion.
I've not had them in ages so thought I'd give them a try.

Some years ago I had some that were made from chopped onion and somehow extruded to be a coated ring. They were far better than these.

I've never found a good or even decent frozen onion ring.
I've just given up and will have mine in a restaurant. I'm
not understanding how such a simple vegetable can turn out
so terribly wrong when food services get their hands on them.

I few years ago I grabbed a burger at A&W and opted for one of the
combo deals that included some onion rings. I was a little disappointed
at first that there were so few but, as it turned out, a few was more
    than enough.

Oh, that's a relief. I was worried for a moment!

Maybe you'd like Funyuns onion flavored snacks. :)

Onion rings would've been my choice for the air fryer, way before a
bloomin onion. After watching a couple of bloomin videos, what a
frellin mess. Onion rings all the way for the win. Slice at least a
half inch thick for home made.
