Um... Joan is in Nashville. Knoxville is in east TN. I hope she didn't have any problems but somehow I doubt it.
Just for fun, there was an earthquake when I was a teenager in Memphis. Memphis is on the west side of the state and is right on the New Madrid
fault line that runs from Marked Tree Arkansas up to Illinois. There
was a quake back in 1976. My maternal grandmother had just died so my mother was out of town to attend her funeral. It was just me and my
father in the house. I was in my bedroom, reading a book, when the
bedside lamp started swaying back and forth. I got up and walked to the bedroom door and felt a jolt and the ground rumbled. I went to the
living room and my father said "Pack a bag, we might have to leave." My
16 year old self said "And go where?" Seriously. Where did he think we were going to go? Nowhere. He got on the phone with Mom and told her
we had an earthquake. She thought he was joking. I think there were a
few little aftershocks but we didn't feel them. The epicenter was about
300 miles north.
I'm sure Joan will let us know if she's okay. And if she's actually
making Shake & Bake chicken for dinner. :)

We don't get much earthquakes in Hawaii. The last sizable one we had was around 2001. I got on the shag rug on our bedroom spread eagle. I really wanted to feel that earthquake. I wouldn't do that in California. The
quakes there are likely to be scary, maybe even terrifying.

of this! I do remember a tremor in the mid 60's and
thought a severely unbalanced washing machine was causing
the house to shake.
This new one occurred in east Tennessee, and I would have
expected it to originate in west Tennessee within the
New Madrid fault line. This is surprising.

Bingo! I felt a quake from that fault back in 1976 even though the
epicenter was about 300 miles to the north of Memphis. I wouldn't be >surprised if you felt a small jolt in Nashville from that one.
Earthquakes in the Knoxville area (east TN) are not common.

Greg, you make no sense here. I can sort of understand
the poorly-planned theft of the vodka to sell it later,
maybe on the plane to other passengers, but why
(1) not just buy the vodka on the way to the airport?
(2) would anyone pay $20 for an empty bottle?
(3) are you into the sacramental wine-box again?

There is an island at the north end of the Canadian province of Nova
Scotia, Cape Breton. There is a causeway that connects it to the rest
of the province and I always assumed there had been a geological event
that separated it from the rest of the province. When I vacationed there
I attended a presentation that explained how it had arrived there. It
had not split from the Canadian mainland. It had split from somewhere in
the UK and migrated across the Atlantic Ocean.

Trump ain't crafted shit. His deal was to allow me to pay 30% to 145%

Trump increased tariffs on Chinese goods from about 5-8% to 20% in 2018.
Even at the "rolled-back" 30%, we're still paying more than we were.
The orange moron can't or won't understand what trade deficits mean.
Or, of course, he could be lying about it. Always a possibility.
However, "The Chinese are taking advantage of us because we buy more of

The only way Trump helped with egg prices is if he was fucking chickens.
It is the reproduction of them that brought the price down, not anyone

Tourist income down $12B this year too.

There are stories in the media about people visiting the US being put
in detention for days or even a few weeks, for unclear reasons,
without any charges ever being pressed. Also stories about hostile
customs people. The Dutch government's telling LGBT people to inform
and prepare themselves before travelling to the US, also depending to
which state.
Doesn't sound like a country you want to visit for a holiday.

I have no plans, but I'd not go to Canada or Mexico now. In the past
going to either one, I just flashed an ID and off you go. I'd be leery

I'd be leery
of border crossing in either direction right now.
Are there retaliatory measures towards Americans?

As unlikely as it might seem, America is not very popular in the world
these days. There's not many people in the world that could carry off
such a thing - the closest would probably be uncle Un.

Not that I've heard of. Mexico used to welcome us but I've heard
stories of crime in recent years. If you know where to go, I'd say OK.
Canada was always friendly. The past 100 days may have changed that.
I'd certainly not wear my MAGA hat there or park my Tesla. I'd not take

Here, the general opinion seems to be that Americans are entitled and
have a big mouth. That was before Trump. On the other hand, the
handful of Americans I've met were all friendly, intelligent people.
Luck of the draw.

It's strange to here Trumps take on trade deals. He has never worked in industry. His business dealing are limited to screw your neighbour real estate and casinos, which he has miraculously bankrupted.
Don't forget the university, steaks, travel website, football team,
bottled water, magazines, and air shuttle.
Some of his real estate ventures went bankrupt, too.
It's the steaks that amaze me. How can someone fail at selling
steaks to Americans?
It's strange to here Trumps take on trade deals. He has never worked in industry. His business dealing are limited to screw your neighbour real estate and casinos, which he has miraculously bankrupted. We got sucked
into the globalization and free trade agreement by a previous US regime.
We bought into NAFTA. Trump didn't like NAFTA so he insisted on re-negotiating that and getting what Trump called the best deal ever.
Now he is reneging on that. We are expected to negotiate a new deal.
What's the point. The US doesn't honour deals.
Trump has leveraged his branding and position as US President to make
lots and lots of money. I suppose a lot of leaders of countries have plundered their country's wealth but it's a whole new idea of what an American President can do while in office. He's been so successful at
making money that "selling out the country to make a buck" doesn't begin
to describe his term. Trump is going to go down as a historic president
but it won't be because he took care of the American people.

I think you got that backwards.

Trump's power over the Legislative branch of government is his ability
to buy votes to turn elections. As soon as the MAGApublicans see Trump
as a liability to their reelection, they'll finally have the will/guts
to go against him. It's the power of having a job vs principles/morals
and believing in the US Constitution. In the end, employment beats out
every other consideration.

His Electoral College numbers were decisive. Not as good as
Clinton's, though.

Don't bite your tongue, you need it to lick Trump's ass.
Koa can mean:
A tree with valuable hardwood native to Hawaii 🌳
You should spend some time listening to "Diapers" Joe Biden...

Don't be a sucker, man. All this "news" about Obama and Biden is merely
a diversion to muddle up the real news of prices for goods going through
the roof. Only a simpleton would fall for this ruse.

From today’s Gospel:
“ I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you,
so you also should love one another. This is how all will know that you
are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
- John 13:34-35

Koa is, in my awesome opinion, right up there with Brazilian rosewood as
far as looks goes. Koa was the favorite of Hawaiian royalty and used in
high status/style building construction and furniture. My guitar teacher started a business making guitars and lutes using Hawaiian woods - koa
and mango. The 70's was a heck of a time for guitars and music in
Hawaii.

Don Ho! [not a Hawaiian greeting phrase]
My dad used to say that Mr. Ho had a house on a hill that had a harem. I thought that was pretty funny but it's probably true. Here's his
daughter Hoku. Hoku is the Hawaiian word for star.
