• Oil Change

From Dave Smith@21:1/5 to All on Tue May 13 12:52:29 2025
I have to say I am impressed. My appointment was for 12:30 but I took it
over around 10 because I did not want to ride in the rain. We had had
some rain but it stopped before I left. I wasn't expecting them to do it
until my time slot, but they called at 11:15 to say it was done. $120.
Only note for attention was that I will need a front tire soon. I got
home and it started raining again.

I had mine changed end of January, first of February.
I mentioned my neighbor was picking me up and we were
heading to breakfast and was informed it would be
ready when we returned. About an hour later after
stuffing our faces we returned, and car was awaiting
    me.

Around the first of July, tires will need to be rotated.

on my original tires. I'm wondering when I need new tires
will I have to get a part-time job to pay for 20" tires?

Do you have a 4WD? How long have you had these tyres?

I had the same tyres on my ute (pickup) for 13 years. Then I had a
flat. The tyre gentleman said that the tyres still looked ok on the
outside, but that in the flat one, two internal layers had probably
come apart due to age, which caused the flat tyre. And to replace them

No, it's front wheel drive and my first car ever with

Prepare to be scolded by Jill for this off topic drivel.

I have better things to do.

OB Food: A friend across the hall at the office brought something for
lunch I'd never heard of before. (His wife is an excellent cook.)
Ravioli filled with ricotta cheese and an egg yolk that stays runny even
after the ravioli is cooked in boiling water and then plated with a
sauce. This recipe I found online calls for pancetta in the sauce but
she makes a brown butter sauce. He reheated it gently on medium setting
in the microwave so that the egg yolk was still runny when he cut into
    the Uovo in Raviolo.

    https://www.seriouseats.com/uovo-in-raviolo-runny-egg-yolk-ravioli-ricotta-recipe

He says it's very labor intensive dish so she doesn't prepare it very often.

Anyway, that's an On Topic food post for Larry.

    https://nypost.com/2025/05/13/us-news/wisconsin-judge-hannah-dugan-indicted-over-allegedly-helping-illegal-migrant-evade-ice/

"The Wisconsin judge who allegedly helped an illegal migrant evade
immigration authorities was indicted by a federal jury Tuesday.

Milwaukee County Judge Hannah Dugan was arrested last month after being
accused of obstruction of justice and concealing Eduardo Flores-Ruiz

She was temporarily relieved of her duties in the aftermath of the
    arrest late last month.

“Judge Dugan wholeheartedly regrets and protests her arrest. It was not

Flores-Ruiz, 30, was initially in court in front of Dugan on April 18

I once drove one to France. Steering was weird: https://www.solido.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/s1800304-citroen-dyane-6-orange-tenere-1974-02.jpg

I had the same tyres on my ute (pickup) for 13 years. Then I had a
flat. The tyre gentleman said that the tyres still looked ok on the
outside, but that in the flat one, two internal layers had probably
come apart due to age, which caused the flat tyre. And to replace them
    all.

The tires on my Explorer were 16 years old when I replaced
them. Less a year later I sold it to my co-worker.

You sure got your money's worth from those tyres.

    Thank you.

You're welcome! We're just looking out for you.

    That's a reassuring idea.

    Dave

I had mine changed end of January, first of February.
I mentioned my neighbor was picking me up and we were
heading to breakfast and was informed it would be
ready when we returned. About an hour later after
stuffing our faces we returned, and car was awaiting
    me.

Around the first of July, tires will need to be rotated.

I'd like everybody to know that my car isn't getting an oil change in
the foreseeable future and had its tyres replaced half a year ago.

If I forget to keep youse updated of any new developments, please
    don't hesitate to remind me.

Oil change. Pfft. I'm taking my car in to get parts of the
frame, the rear hatch, and bumper cover replaced. And possibly
a few other parts TBD. They say the whole job will take a month.

Well, I'm not their only customer. I want them to do a good job.

I'm regretting selling the death trap Highlander. Renting a car for

Ah, well. If I had time travel I would just go back in time

You are lucky they lasted that long. Tires have a best before date. When
my mother had to give up driving and I bought her car there were only
about 25,000 miles it and the tires appeared to be in good shape. They
were crack free and had lots of tread but were about 7-8 years old.
Within a couple weeks there was a thumping in one of the front tires.
Before I had a day off to take it for repair it got worse. It turned out
    they had thrown belts.

No laws, but most tire makers suggest 5 to 6 years. I never had tires
last that long. OTOH, the ones on my wife's car could have been. Now
that I think about it, she could have gone out and had a tire go bad and
be stranded a mile from home.

that I think about it, she could have gone out and had a tire go bad and

That's why they put the manufacture date on tires and likely one of the
reasons tires go on sale. My mother's car was law mileage and almost
all city driving. They looked great. Then when we got the car and were
driving it more and driving faster the problem arose. First one tire and
then the second within a week. We had to replace all four.

When I worked in the equipment section one of my jobs was moving
construction office trailers. Those things would sit for years and the
tires would sometimes crack so bad we had to replace them before moving
them. Typically they would have been drawn less than 1oo miles from the manufacturer to our main equipment section in Toronto, another 50 to our
yard near Hamilton and then out to a construction site within 50 miles.
They might get moved to one to two more sites, so well under 1000 miles
    on a set of tires.

Age rot includes belts, hoses and anything else made of rubber or soft
plastic. For the last ten years, my vehicles mostly rot in the driveway.
My wife does drive the Subaru, but it's new. So do I, once a week to the grocery store, 1/2 mile away. :)
