• Dinner at the Crap Trap

From Ed P@21:1/5 to All on Tue May 20 21:11:37 2025
Today, my friend Joan and I went to the Crab Trap restaurant. I was
there a couple of years ago so this was my second visits, probably over
    50 for her. Great meal.

We split and order of clams casino, the best I ever had. Our meal
included soup or salad, we both chose the Italian Sausage soup.

Following was the entree, a crispy griddled crab cake. It is served a
top a chardonnay cream sauce, a nice complement to it.

    https://thecrabtrap.com/

The season really starts next week here in Ocean City but the restaurant
was full capacity. This time of year, mostly the older crown, the
families start arriving after Memorial Day and after school is done.

Well, you managed to make me quite envious. It looks like a great
place. We just don't have places around here with that variety of seafood.

Hegseth orders new review of Afghanistan withdrawal and suicide bombing
    at Kabul airport

"WASHINGTON (AP) — Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has ordered another
review of the U.S. military’s chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan in
2021, and of the suicide bombing at the Kabul airport that killed
    American troops and Afghans...

President Donald Trump and Hegseth have repeatedly blasted the Biden administration for the withdrawal, which Hegseth said Tuesday was
“disastrous and embarrassing.” He said the new review will interview witnesses, analyze the decision-making and “get the truth.”...

The Abbey Gate bombing during the final days of the Afghanistan
withdrawal killed 13 U.S. service members and 170 Afghans, and wounded
scores more. It triggered widespread debate and congressional criticism,
fueled by searing photographs of desperate Afghans trying to crowd into
the airport to get out of Kabul, with some clinging to U.S. military
aircraft as they were taking off...

A congressional review was highly critical of the withdrawal, saying the
Biden administration did not adequately prepare for it or for all the contingencies and put personnel in danger..."

And after someone is kind enough to hide his bottle and show Mr.
Signal-secure where Afganistan is on a map, then it will just be a
matter of forgetting that the withdrawal was "negotiated" by Pres. Art-of-the-Deal, who thoughtfully allowed the release of the bulk of
the Taliban fighters to resume kiilling prior to the event. Not that
different than what Pres. Shit-for-Brains wants to do in Ukraine.

It foreshadows all of the horse shit the will flow when the chickens
come home to roost from Pres. Ignoramus' screwing with the economy. It
is all someone else's fault and my idea was perfect.

And you will, of course, be here ot cheerlead the devasataion and call
    it genius.

    O:-)

Hey, update on JK. He had to go to eviction proceedings to
get tenants to leave, one single guy, and one married couple. Thing is
this, the older sister, Karen, whom he called a bitch, acted as
"attorney in fact" in the case, suggesting that he is no longer mentally competent to manage his own affairs. Maybe soon he will be like Trump, pooping in diapers.

Anyway, they won both cases, but you can bet that JK isn't taking on any
more lodgers, and the attorney fees likely far exceeded anything he can recover from the tenants.

JK should move in with Widder Jill...

My guess is that you wouldn't know much about singer/songwriters below

I have to get my stuff updated. I want to make sure there is someone
entitled to pull the plug when the time comes. Our son is starting to
pressure us to look into downsizing. He doesn't want to get stuck
dealing with all the house and property.... and to elderly parents.

My father had had PoA for his sister. When he was near the end of his
life he arranged for me to take it over. That meant having to deal with
my aunt's bank account, pay the bills for her old folks home and deal
with her daughter, which was one of the worst parts. It didn't last
long. About 6 months into it I got a call at about 4 am on a Sunday
morning from a doctor at the hospital where she had been admitted. He
said she had had a (another) stroke and was not expected to survive. He
noted that she had a DNR and that I was a new PoA and asked if the DNR
still stood. I asked him to call back in 10 minutes. When he called
back I said she had been competent when she signed it so.... yes.

That left me to deal with my cousin. Who wanted me to come into the
city to sign her out of the hospital so she could take her mother "home
to die". My cousin was living in a seedy dump and was not competent to
look after her mother. We would have had to arrange transport, rent a
hospital bed and hire a PSW. I took the coward's way out and called my
uncle in Florida to let him know what was going. He was very supportive
of my decision to keep her in the hospital and was very angry about my
cousin's request. Fortunately, my aunt died later that day.

My PoA expired with my aunt. Then my brother's responsibilities as
executor took over. The cousin was even more of a pain in the ass for
him that she had been for me.

I don't recall John every acknowledging needing third party approval but
I was only seeing replies to and about John. I was under the impression
that when he found himself strapped he would go crawling to his sister expecting her to bail him out.

Financial recklessness is a well known issue in the manic
    phase of bipolar disorder.

In another post I talked about my experience as PoA for my aunt and
having to deal with her bipolar daughter. The cousin was totally
incompetent dealing with finances. She had tried to get me to buy her a
car with her mother's money, just as she had done with my father, though
she did not sic a lawyer on me like she did with him.

When my aunt died and my brother was executor of her estate the cousin
hounded him to get her money. We had taken her out for supper and tried
to talk her into letting us set up a trust fund for her. She would be
able to stay on her disability pension and the trust fund could be used
to buy things she wanted/needed. We could not do it without her consent
and she just wanted her money. My brother had no intention to disperse
any of the money until the the taxes had been paid and a clearance
certificate issued to complete probate. When it was all settled she
took the the two hour bus trip to see my brother to pick up the cheque.
She could not wait a couple more days for it to come by mail.

As soon as she got the money she went out and bought a used car and a
"house", which was a non winterized cottage with a wood stove.
Apparently that was a disaster and within a couple years she lost the
    car and the house.

A friend had a sister with a similar problem. The parents had split up
years earlier but the father had a significant estate. One of the sons
was the executor. They had arranged to split the estate four ways with
the two sons and older daughter getting a cash and setting up a trust
fund. Here we are about 20 years later and that trust fund is still
paying her rent and a modest supplement to her disability pension.

It's a shame Kuthe's father had not done that. Instead, he ended up
paying way to much for his house, way too much for a roof repair and who
knows what else, and the whole thing seems to have caused nothing but
    problems for him.
